Like coaches’ poll, no change in AP Top 5

As was the case in the coaches’ poll released earlier today, there was little change at and near the top of the Associated Press’ latest rankings.

Much like it was last week, the Top Five according to the AP is, in order, LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma State, Stanford and Boise State. The Tigers (47), Tide (10) and Broncos (one) were the only teams to receive first-place votes.

Oklahoma, which suffered their first loss a week ago, was the biggest beneficiary of the losses of previously unbeatens Clemson and Kansas State as well as one-loss Michigan State, with the Sooners vaulting past a handful of teams from No. 13 to No. 7. Nebraska and South Carolina each moved up four spots and into the Top 10, coming in at No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.

Oregon, from No. 7 to Clemson’s old No. 6 haunting grounds, and Arkansas, holding at No. 8, round out the Top 10.

Clemson, Michigan State, Kansas State and Wisconsin dropped the furthest in the latest AP release, with the Tigers falling five spots to No. 11; the Spartans six to No. 15; and the Wildcats and Badgers seven to No. 17 and No. 19, respectively.

At the opposite end of the spectrum were the likes of No. 16 Penn State, up five, and No. 13 Michigan and No. 14 Houston, each up four spots.

Georgia Tech (No. 22) and Auburn (No. 25) both moved into the rankings, replacing Texas A&M (then-No. 16) and Texas Tech (No. 19).
