Back in June it was reported that Miami was focused on playing LSU in a neutral-site non-conference game in Big 12 country. Four months later, that’s come to fruition.
In addition to confirming the future home-and-home series with Texas previously reported, LSU announced Thursday that it will open the 2018 season against Miami. That game will be the played in Arlington, Tex., in the annual Cowboys Classic at the home of the Dallas NFL team.
“These are the types of games that our fans want to see and they will be a huge benefit to our football program and our university,” LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said in a statement. “The Cowboys Classic is a great event and gives us an opportunity to showcase LSU football in the premier NFL venue in an area that is one of our biggest alumni bases outside Louisiana.”
The Tigers have played in two previous Cowboys Classics -- 2011 against Oregon and in 2013 against TCU. LSU won both of those games.
The 2018 game against the Hurricanes will mark the first meeting between the two football programs since the 2005 Peach Bowl. The last regular season meeting came in 1988.
LSU leads the all-time series 9-3.
