Updated: Michael Dyer suspended for Chick-fil-A Bowl

Auburn started out as an early favorite, albeit by the slightest of margins, to beat Virginia in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. That line may move in UVA’s favor if this next rumor turns out to be true.

The school has confirmed by way of the Birmingham News that running back Michael Dyer has been suspended for the bowl game for a violation of team rules.

Both and, the and affiliates for the school, reported that Dyer was suspended on Sunday morning. The Birmingham News later cited sources who confirmed the suspension.

CFT’s email to Auburn seeking confirmation on the reports was not immediately returned.

Dyer, the Offensive MVP of last year’s BCS national title, finished the season with 1,242 yards and 12 touchdowns -- second in the SEC behind only Alabama’s Trent Richardson. If nothing else, it’s a huge loss in production for Auburn’s offense, which has struggled down the stretch. Tre Mason could see more touches in the bowl game, but he’s had only 19 carries this season.
