North Carolina State has been without the services of their leading rusher for the first six games of the 2011 season.
Now, the Wolfpack will have to deal without his talents for the second half of the season as well.
According to J.P. Giglio of the Raleigh News & Observer, running back Mustafa Greene will be shut down for the remainder of the season and take his redshirt year. Greene underwent foot surgery in April and was expected to miss the first four games. However, the true sophomore’s rehab has not gone as expected and, as a result, he will be sidelined for all 12 plus a bowl if the Wolfpack qualifies.
“I don’t think he’s still right,” head coach Tom O’Brien said. “I think it’s best for him to have another surgery on his foot.”
Greene led NCSU with 597 yards as a true freshman in 2010. He scored six total touchdowns -- four rushing, two receiving. He was also fourth on the team in receptions with 30.
