Bad pun aside, and due to injury, Penn State will have a new starter in the backfield as the Nittany Lions attempt to bounce back this weekend from an embarrassing season-opening loss to Ohio.
First-year head coach Bill O’Brien announced on his radio show Thursday night that senior Derek Day will get the start at running back for the Nittany Lions against Virginia Saturday. Starter Bill Belton was injured in the third quarter of the home loss to the Bobcats last Saturday, and O’Brien said the sophomore’s ankle issue is essentially a day-to-day situation.
“I’m not sure if Billy will be able to go Saturday,” O’ Brien said during the show.
With Belton sidelined for most of the second half, Day rushed for 36 yards on eight carries.
