NFL coaching moves seem to be staying away from college options

Nothing is guaranteed at this point, but the momentum in the NFL coaching carousel seems to be moving farther away from the college ranks. The latest information being reported regarding coaching jobs with the New York Jets, Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos appear to be sticking to NFL coaches, which should keep the college football coaching carousel at rest until next season.

The New York Jets are reportedly set to hire Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. UCLA head coach Jim Mora had previously dispelled the talk about him being lined up for an interview with the Jets, although he remains to be one of the more interesting options for a possible return to the NFL given his NFL background. For now, he is still in charge at UCLA. The Oakland Raiders are still looking to secure a head coach after reportedly finishing up an interview with Jack Del Rio without a deal in place. Oakland and San Francisco might be worth keeping an eye on.

The Denver Broncos opened up a somewhat unexpected vacancy with the recent firing of John Fox, who is now reportedly heading to Chicago for an interview. If the Bears let Fox leave the Windy City without a contract offer, that would be just about as surprising. One college football coach that had been discussed as a potential option for the Bears, if they chose to go with a college option, was Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly. How likely that was to pan out is debatable at best.

NFL vacancies are currently found in Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Oakland and San Francisco.
