Okla. St. LB claims $700 was stolen from bank account

Normally when you read about a college football player entangled a legal issue, it’s usually the player who is the alleged perpetrator. This time around, it’s the player who is the alleged victim.

Although, if the rumor mill is correct, the alleged perpetrator could very well be a football player, too.

Here’s what has been confirmed separate from the speculation: the Daily Oklahoman reported Wednesday evening that Oklahoma State linebacker Jeremiah Tshimanga filed an incident report with university police in which the freshman alleged that an OSU student -- the Daily O’ Collegian reports that police said it was one of Tshimanga’s current teammates -- withdrew a total of $700 from his bank account without his permission. On April 27, it’s alleged that the suspect, whose name was redacted in the report, made two withdrawals from a local bank, one for $500 in the morning and another for $200 in the afternoon.

Tshimanga, an early enrollee and member of OSU’s 2012 recruiting class, viewed still photos of the bank’s video surveillance and identified the suspect to police. The player also told police that he confronted the individual, who allegedly admitted to the theft but did not repay the money.

The suspect allegedly stole Tshimanga’s permanent-residence ID in order to make the withdrawals

Police have not been able to speak to the individual suspected of making the withdrawals as he’s not in Stillwater at the moment. The investigation into the alleged theft is ongoing but appears to be nearing completion.

“We have surveillance of the suspect and statements from him and the victim, but we are waiting for the bank teller’s statement to be submitted into evidence,” a police spokesperson told the student paper. “Once that is submitted the investigators will send the affidavit to the DA’s office.”

The school has yet to comment on the situation.
