Ole Miss fan says he was assaulted by police during Rebels-LSU game

Ole Miss’s 38-17 win over LSU was a great day for all but two Rebels.

Chris Barnes was assaulted by police in the Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium stands during Saturday’s game. His wife Holly posted a video of Chris being punched by uniformed officers.

Oxford police has claimed no responsibility for the incident.

Ole Miss campus police is also aware of the incident, saying an investigation has been launched, but the department claims the video shows officers from surrounding departments hired specifically to work the game.

“The University of Mississippi Police Department is aware of the video of an incident taking place at the Ole Miss-LSU football game,” the department said in a statement. “The officers involved are not officers with the University Police Department, but are certified officers from other jurisdictions hired to work security at home football games. The University of Mississippi Police Department takes this situation seriously, and is currently investigating the incident. We encourage anyone that witnessed the event to contact the department at 662-915-7234 or email us at upd@olemiss.edu.”

Holly Barnes says Chris was blamed for actions of those sitting a few rows above and sustained “a concussion, fractures to his orbital wall and maxillary sinus and contusions to the tissues of his eyes,” according to WMC news in Oxford.
