Eulogies are being written all across the country on a seemingly minute-by-minute basis for what could be left of the Big 12 in the next few days.
When he’s not getting emotional over the likely loss of Nebraska to the Big 10, Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione says he and others are working feverishly to save the beleaguered conference.
“I understand people are writing this like the ship has sailed and there really isn’t any way the Big 12 could stay together,” Castiglione told the Daily Oklahoman. “I just don’t think this is true. I think there’s still a way for us to stick together and be viable. Whether we do or not, I don’t know.
“Behind the scenes, we’re talking about all the different kinds of strategies and plans that would prove that point.”
Is it too little, too late for the relatively young conference? It likely all depends on Texas now as Castiglione reiterated that the key to keeping the conference together is the Longhorns.
