With Matt McGloin entrenched -- for now -- as Penn State’s starting quarterback and several NCAA sanctions forthcoming, it appears as though one-time co-starting quarterback Rob Bolden is considering life outside of Happy Valley.
The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that Bolden visited LSU this weekend, though there was no confirmation of that from the school (obviously).
Bolden will be a junior this season, and because of the NCAA’s more liberal transfer policies for Penn State players, will be able to participate right away if he moves on. The only way he couldn’t is if he played part of this season for PSU before transferring midseason.
Penn State has also confirmed Bolden is no longer on the roster, but that’s been for several weeks apparently. It’s safe to say that his demotion to third-string QB, not the NCAA’s sanctions, was the reason behind this decision.
Bolden’s gone back and forth on transferring out of PSU for the past year anyway, so if the Times-Picayune is accurate, it wouldn’t be the most surprising move. But Zach Mettenberger, who will start for the Tigers this season, also has two years of eligibility remaining.
