Grier will have to sit out a full season in 2016 should he land with another FBS program. He will be eligible immediately in 2016 at any lower division school, although he will still have to sit out the first six games of the season due to his ongoing NCAA suspension. Suspended for one full calendar year as a result of a failed drug test for a banned substance. Grier argued he was unaware of the illegal substance in an over-the-counter drug and lost an appeal recently.
Grier was expected to return to the practice field with the Gators on January 5, following an off-field suspension as part of the sentence. That, apparently, will no longer be the case.
