Rudolph named Tight End of the Week

Kyle Rudolph’s performance against Michigan State has garnered national attention. The Nassau County Sports Commission announced Wednesday that Rudolph was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week.

Rudolph’s six catches for 95 yards were key to the Irish victory last week, and his 52-yard catch and run was the longest play from scrimmage by a tight end since John Carlson went 62 yards against the Spartans in 2006.

For the season, Rudolph has 13 catches and 162 yards. His 12.46 yards-per-catch is the highest of all tight ends in D-IA (or Football Bowl Subdivision) among those with at least 4.33 catches per game.

The John Mackey Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA). The Mackey will be awarded during the Home Depot ESPN College Football Awards on December 10th.
