Sam Foltz’s nephews lead Nebraska onto field for opener

Sam Foltz wasn’t far from the minds of Husker Nation or his teammates as Nebraska kicked off the 2016 season Saturday night against Fresno State.

In fact, he was, rightly so, at the forefront.

On their way home from a kicking camp late last month, Foltz, along with ex-Michigan State punter Mike Sadler, was killed in a car accident as they were driving through a severe thunderstorm in Wisconsin. Additionally, LSU placekicker Colby Delahoussaye, a backseat passenger in the Mercedes driven by Sadler, was injured in the crash that claimed the players’ lives.

Prior to the game, the nephews of the Cornhuskers punter helped to lead the team onto the field as part of the tunnel walk. Additionally, the team’s punting unit took a penalty to honor a player who should’ve been on the field with them this year but wasn’t.

It’s almost time, @HuskerFBNation fans. #tunnelwalk https://t.co/LJWeSxGWRv

I could take pictures all season, and I may not get one that means more than this. pic.twitter.com/HM8nFKD9xu

We had to take a delay of game, weren’t able to get all 11 guys out to punt in time.

Missing one of them. pic.twitter.com/o3mzXQZqlO
