SEVEN felony domestic violence charges trigger dismissal of Arizona RB Orlando Bradford

I’ve been on the CFT beat since January of 2009, and this, as far as I can recollect, is an ignominious record that I hope never, ever gets matched.

Arizona running back Orlando Bradford was arrested Wednesday on four counts of aggravated assault and three counts of kidnapping. All seven of those charges are felonies, and stem from an ongoing domestic situation that was spread out over the last several days.

The Tucson Police Department was contacted Wednesday morning by the alleged victim, and Bradford was arrested shortly thereafter. From USA Today:

Dugan said the police received a 911 call around 6:30 a.m. local time Wednesday regarding an alleged domestic violence incident.

The arriving officers noted that the alleged victim had obvious injuries, and she claimed Bradford assaulted her several times over the past few days.

Investigators found that the alleged victim and Bradford were in a relationship that falls under domestic violence statute.

Not surprisingly, Bradford has been summarily dismissed by Wildcats head coach Rich Rodriguez.

“Earlier today, we were made aware that Orlando Bradford had been arrested,” Rodriguez said in a statement. “As a result of his actions, he has been dismissed from the program.”

Bradford, a sophomore, was officially a co-starter at running back for the Wildcats and had rushed for 16 yards on five carries this season. Last season, he ran for 208 yards and three touchdowns.
