Heading into Saturday’s matchup with a Notre Dame squad that’s not only ranked seventh in the polls but also possesses one of the top defenses in the country, Stanford will likely be without one of its most productive players on the offensive side of the ball.
Ty Montgomery injured his knee in the win over Arizona this past weekend and head coach David Shaw was decidedly pessimistic as to the wide receiver’s availability against the Irish.
“He’s probably not going to play,” Shaw said after practice Tuesday.
Montgomery is currently second on the team in receptions (18) behind tight end Zach Ertz, and is third in receiving yards (168). He will be replaced in the starting lineup by Jamal-Rashad Patterson, who is fifth on the Cardinal with 100 yards receiving.
