New head coach Mike London took an unexpected hit to the middle of his offensive line as his starting center has decided to leave the football program, the Charlottesville Daily Progress is reporting.
Not only has Jack Shields left the program, but he’s left football, period.
Shields, a senior-to-be who started 23 of the last 24 games, told London that he’s “burned out on football” and will now concentrate his efforts on academics.
“I had a great time here,” said Shields, “and I don’t regret anything. I loved it.”
Anthony Mihota is expected to take over for Shields in the center of the Cavaliers’ line.
