When Syracuse opens its first season under Scott Shafer, it appears the new head coach will have an injured starting defensive player at his disposal.
Safety Durell Eskridge underwent surgery early last month to repair to repair damage he suffered in his right hand. The injury occurred at some point during spring practice, although the defensive back practiced through it and finished the sessions before undergoing the knife.
Asked Wednesday by the Syracuse Post-Standard about Eskridge’s availability for the opener against Penn State, Shafer said the sophomore “will be ready to go.”
Eskridge played in all 13 games last season. He exited spring practice as one of the starting safeties on the Orange’s depth chart.
