Toledo’s loss at home to Missouri in week two came with a little salt on the wounds. Starting quarterback Phillip Ely will miss the remainder of the 2014 season with a torn ACL. Ely left the game in the third quarter of the game.
Ely has been named the starting quarterback for Toledo in the days leading up to the start of the 2014 season. He edged Logan Woodside and Michael Julian for the starting nod. The depth chart for Toledo’s most recent game did not specify a specific back-up for Ely, instead listing “Logan Woodside or Michael Julian” underneath the starter. It was Woodside who replaced Ely in the game against Missouri. He completed six of 10 passes for 52 yards in his moderately short time on the field. Julian saw the field too, letting loose on a 65-yard punt. It would appear likely Woodside will be the new starter for the Rockets starting this week at home against Ball State.QB Phillip Ely is out for the season with a knee injury suffered in Missouri game, according to @UTMattCampbell.

Ely transferred to Toledo from Alabama after losing ground on the Alabama depth chart behind AJ McCarron. After Blake Sims moved passed Ely on the depth chart, a search for a chance to find significant playing time eventually led to a transfer to Toledo in 2013.
