Texas A&M’s depth at the tight end position just got a bit more shallow. Jordan Davis announced, via Twitter, he will be leaving the program and seeking an opportunity to play elsewhere in 2016.
“My life at Texas A&M has been a rewarding experience. The memories made have been unforgettable,” Davis said. “Unfortunately, I believe my time here has expired. It is with a heavy heart for me to say that I plan to transfer to another institution, but I feel it is the best situation for my future football career. Texas A&M will forever hold a special place in my heart.”
NCAA transfer rules will require Davis to sit out the 2016 season if he transfers to another FBS program, meaning he will be out of action for his sophomore season. Davis played in three games for the Aggies last season, catching two passes for a total of seven yards and a touchdown.
With the departure of Davis, and seniors Brandon Alexander and Caden Smith exhausting their eligibility, Texas A&M is left with zero scholarship tight ends on the current football roster.

Well, that’s not quite the case. Texas A&M still has freshmen Grant Gustafson and Greer Shetler listed on the team’s website, but Davis was Texas A&M’s leading receiver at the position with his minimal production. Texas A&M did not use a scholarship in the Class of 2016 for the tight end position (Davis was the only scholarship tight end in the Class of 2015). It is still early, of course, but the Aggies do not have a tight end locked up for the Class of 20176 at this point either, although it may be safe to assume that will not remain the case as the recruiting process plays out.
