As it clings to a thread-bare hope of bowl eligibility, Tulane’s running game may be taking a rather significant short-term hit.
During the Friday night loss to Cincinnati, running backs Sherman Badie and Lazedrick Thompson sustained second-half ankle injuries. Neither player practiced Tuesday because of the injuries.
Curtis Johnson said Badie would be the closer of the two to playing against Houston Saturday, even as both are officially listed as questionable.
“It’s always a concern when you lose a player like Sherman, who is probably our most dynamic player on offense,” Johnson said. “Then, your most physical player on offense is out (Thompson). They are both some of the older players on our offense because one is a redshirt freshman (Badie) and one is a sophomore (Thompson), so it’s a huge concern. Hopefully (the training staff) can do a good job and we can get those guys back in some capacity.”
Badie’s 595 rushing yards and 6.5 yards per carry currently lead the team, while Thompson is second with 400 yards. Thompson and Badie are one-two in rushing touchdowns with four and three, respectively.
