UCF steals four-star QB from hometown Louisville

What was already a solid 2011 recruiting class for UCF was strengthened today as the school announced they have picked up the signature of a high schooler who plays a fairly important position.

According to a release issued by the school earlier today, four-star quarterback DaMarcus Smith signed a Letter of Intent and will be a part of the Knights football program in 2011. Smith selected UCF over his hometown school Louisville, to whom he had previously given a verbal commitment.

“With DeMarcus’ decision, it is a great addition to a solid recruiting class,” head coach George O’Leary said. “He has so many great quarterback skills that will make him a very productive player at UCF.

“The key to any recruiting class is, one, identifying your needs, and, two, securing those needs. I think the coaching staff did an outstanding job in both areas. It is an outstanding recruiting class in that addressed our offense, defense and kicking game.”

Smith was rated as the No. 2 player in the state of Kentucky by Rivals.com, and was the No. 11 dual-threat QB according to the recruiting service.
