UF’s Demps wins SEC’s 100m, Fastest man in college football?

With spring practice done, and the doldrums of the college football season underway, one Florida Gator who isn’t making headlines for the wrong reasons is tailback Jeff Demps.

Demps won the 100 meter dash at the SEC outdoor track championships, running a 10.06 in poor conditions to run the second fastest time in the NCAA this year and the fourth fastest in the world. It’s not Demps personal best (he ran a ridiculous 10.01 as a 19-year-old), but it was good enough to help the Gators win the SEC team title.

“You know, it was pretty rainy out there today, but we can’t let the weather conditions hold us down,” Demps said after the race. “Around about the middle of the race I kind of felt myself pull away, and I kind of knew then that I had it.”

With Demps ascension to the fastest man in the fastest conference in America, it’s only logical for the Gator speedster to take the crown as the fastest man in college football. Especially, as Dr. Saturday points out, with Jacoby Ford and Trindon Holiday exiting college football.

Demps returns next season to the Tebowless Gator backfield itsleading rusher, averaging 7.5 yards a carry on 99 attempts last season.
