USC RB Tre Madden to miss Friday trip to Colorado with knee injury

One week ahead of a track meet at Autzen Stadium, USC is still without one of its top sprinters.

The Trojans revealed Wednesday senior running back Tre Madden will miss Friday’s trip to Colorado.

“We decided we’re going to rest him this week, reevaluate next week and it may be a couple-week thing,” interim head coach Clay Helton told the Los Angeles Times. “We’ll have to see, but at this point in time, we want to get him back 100% healthy.”

Fighting through a bone bruise in his knee, Madden has carried the ball only 23 times since rushing 17 times for 120 yards in a loss to Washington on Oct. 8. He missed USC’s upset of then-No. 3 Utah and last week’s win over Arizona.

Despite seeing such limited action, Madden is still the Pac-12’s 13th-ranked rusher with 418 yards and five touchdowns on 77 carries.

True freshman Ronald Jones II rushed 19 times for a career-high 177 yards and a touchdown in the Arizona victory and figures to see his role increase as long as Madden is unable to play.
