Allegedly.
In my nearly six years at CFT, I’m fairly certain this is a first. Sure, there was the Southern University athletic director back in 2011, and the SMU players who claimed in 2012 they had more than $3,000 worth of items stolen from them by an “escort.”
But to the best of my knowledge no FBS player over the past few years has been busted for solicitation... until now. Allegedly.
Tuesday evening, Utah State head coach Matt Wells announced that wide receiver Hayden Weichers had been suspended from the football program for “violating unspecified team rules.” One of those team rules we now know is “don’t seek sexual favors from a hooker” as, the Logan Herald Journal is reporting, Weichers was cited for suspicion of soliciting a prostitute.
According to the Deseret News, the alleged solicitation took place Oct. 22.
A redshirt freshman, Weichers had played in all nine games this season. He has 10 receptions for 84 yards, but was coming off a game against Hawaii in which he set career-highs in catches (three) and yards (27).
