Vols lose RB Oku to transfer

The once-promising Tennessee career of David Oku, overshadowed from the outset by the circus that was Bryce Brown, has officially come to an end, the school announced Friday.

The running back had fallen out of the rotation under head coach Derek Dooley, so it’s no surprise that Oku has decided to transfer from the university.

"David has handled this situation in a professional way, and we mutually agreed that his departure is best for him and for our program,” Dooley said in a statement.

Oku finishes his two-year Volunteer career with just 268 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Following his senior year in high school, Rivals.com ranked Oku as the No. 1 all-purpose back in the country.

It’s unclear where the sophomore will land. During his recruitment, Oku took official visits to Auburn, Louisville, Nebraska and Syracuse in addition to a trip to Knoxville. The Cornhuskers would seem to be an obvious destination as he went to high school in Lincoln.
