WR-turned-rapper Jay Harris drops mic, picks up football -- again

For those interested in the career path of Jay Harris, please allow me to treat you to an update.

As pointed out by mlive..com, Harris has decided to, once again, set aside his rap “career” and give football yet another go. The wide receiver is participating in spring practice at Div. II Indiana University of Pennsylvania, which the website notes is Harris’ fifth football program since 2013.

And, yes, you read that correctly -- the fifth football program with which he signed.

A three-star member of Michigan State’s 2013 recruiting class, Harris announced in mid-May of that year that he had decided to give up what he described as a “half-hearted” commitment to Spartans football and pursue a career in rap as “Jay DatBull.”

MSU, on the other hand, reportedly stripped Harris of his scholarship after a YouTube video — subsequently removed — of his rap venture came to their attention. Officially, Harris’ departure from East Lansing was labeled as “a mutual decision” by both sides.

The receiver announced back in November of 2013 that he would be restarting his football career at WMU, although it was acknowledged in August of last year that Harris was once again ditching football to resume his pursuit of a rap career.

In between his MSU and WMU stints, Harris spent time at both a junior college (ASA College in Brooklyn, NY) and prep school (East Coast Prep in Great Barrington, Mass.) as his initial attempt at a rap career floundered and he refocused on football. It’s unknown how long Harris’ latest foray into the sport will last, although he certainly seems proud that he’s giving it another go-'round.

Harris does, or at least did, possess some football talent as he was rated as the No. 37 player at any position in the state of Pennsylvania in the Class of 2013.
