AIGLE, Switzerland -- Cycling’s governing body has suspended the use of disc brakes following an injury to Movistar rider Francisco Ventoso.

The UCI says it’s acting on a request from the professional teams’ association after Ventoso was hurt in Sunday’s Paris-Roubaix classic.

Ventoso says he got a deep cut after coming into contact with another rider’s rear brake rotor. The Spaniard says he got caught behind a crash and didn’t go down but merely rode up against the bike ahead of him, which had disc brakes.

After being tested in select races last year, the UCI cleared pro riders in all categories to use disc brakes this season.

The UCI says it will continue “extensive consultations” on the disc brakes with its equipment commission.
