Best XI: Week 21

Welcome back to the Best XI.  We had another great weekend of Premier League action in gameweek 21 and we have a very interesting Best XI coming up.  Let’s get started.

Best XI

Only Diego Costa missed out on the Best XI due to a high price as we were forced to replace him with the cheaper Dwight Gayle.  It’s important to note that Costa is now on a mini scoring streak with two goals in two matches and he should once again be considered every single week.  If you had him at a discount, he would have certainly been in the Best XI this week.

Points

We would have had 228 points with Diego Costa but without him, we are on 224 points.  With an average of 232.7, we are fairly close to the mean.

Cost

This week the BEST XI cost £ 94.81M*.  The new price of our Best XI (if you were to try to create this team now after the price changes) is £ 124.58M.  That’s a 31.4% increase in price.

*Keep in mind the cost does NOT include any substitutes and is thus 96M instead of 100M.

MVP

This week’s MVP was Alexis Sanchez.  The Arsenal forward is once again on fire and scored twice this week to claim the MVP honors.  He has been brilliant the entire season and leads all fantasy players with 303 points thus far.  In second place is Eden Hazard at 239 points.  Sanchez also leads the league in points per match, where he is tied with Sergio Aguero.

It’s amazing to me that the top performer is 27% better than the second best player.  Consider Sanchez once cost £ 5.0M, there is almost nothing to argue against him being the best fantasy player this season.

Formation

Yup.  3-4-3 again.

Repeat Offenders

Our MVP Alexis Sanchez is now sole-leader of this list, but it’s worth noting Diego Costa would have been tied with him had he been a bit cheaper this week.  Both should be considered every single week.  Stewart Downing joins the list deservedly, as he’s been one of the best midfielders this season.

Team Rankings

Arsenal is first again, with almost 30% of their Best XI entries coming from Alexis Sasnchez.  Chelsea are now in second after Oscar and reserve goalkeeper Petr Cech earned them two entries this week.  The battle for third is between Manchester City and Southampton with no clear favorite at the moment.
