Best XI: Week 23

I was watching the 3 pm games on Saturday and couldn’t believe how many clean sheets there were that day.  We got two more on Sunday for a total of seven clean sheets for the gameweek.  The games were still not low on goals, as there wasn’t a single scoreless game and eight of the ten games this weekend saw at least two goals each.  It was a very interesting week overall and it resulted in a very interesting Best XI.  Here it is.

Best XI

Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen would have made the Best XI were it not for their high prices but Mesut Ozil and Jermaine Defoe made it instead.  It’s worth noting Ozil costs £ 10.6M while Defoe is only £ 7.45M.  Both present interesting choices going forward, with my choice being Ozil if you were to add one of them.

Points

234 points this week after having to cut down on a few players is not a bad total.  The combination of seven clean sheets and 27 goals produced high scores across all positions, providing for a pretty good week.

Cost

This week the BEST XI cost £ 92.74M*.  The new price of our Best XI (if you were to try to create this team now after the price changes) is £ 136.77M.  That’s a 47.5% increase in price.

*Keep in mind the cost does NOT include any substitutes and is thus 96M instead of 100M.

MVP

This week the MVP was Stoke City forward Jonathan Walters.  Yes, you read that right.  Walters bagged a hat-trick as Stoke saw off QPR 3-1.  He scored twice in the first half to give his team a 2-0 lead and then put the game away in added time.  An overall impressive performance, but we find it unlikely to continue.  The three weeks before this one, Walters averaged 5.7 points per game and was averaging 6.4 points per game before this week.

Formation

4-3-3 this time.  A lot of clean sheets this weekend and the result was a high number of very good defenders.

Repeat Offenders

Welcome Santi Cazorla to the list.  The return of Arsenal’s midfielders is not slowing him down and he is likely to continue his great production.
