DFS Soccer Week 17

Jose Mourinho has been sacked! I know that’s the biggest storyline of the day, but winning in DFS Soccer is probably a bigger benefit to you than reading about Mourinho, so I’m going to go ahead and focus on content instead of the Mourinho story, which I could probably write 3000 words about. Anyway, the only way the Mourinho sacking concerns us whether or not to play Chelsea players this week, and there’s certainly a motive to do so. They’re fairly cheap, they play league-worst Sunderland, and they could be inspired yet again by a new manager. I likely won’t trust them in cash games, but in GPPs, they’re fair game.  Let’s get to the charts.

The top goalkeeper value on DraftKings is surprisingly Thibaut Courtois. Chelsea have been extremely bad, but a new manager and a horrible opponent at home sure does make for a good recipe for success. I expect Sunderland to get off a good number of shots, so if Courtois doesn’t concede, the upside is certainly there. The matchup is so bad that I wouldn’t even mind using Courtois in cash games. Seeing who is appointed manager will also help in this decision, so follow me on twitter for some extra analysis later this week.

David de Gea is also a good option in a plus matchup, but the sports books don’t like him as much as they do Courtois. On the cheaper side, Butland and Boruc are options in GPPs. Butlant specifically has been in great form, so I really prefer him as my GPP play this week.

Since MondoGoal doesn’t give points for a win and their pricing is still off, a few things are different here this week. Courtois is still top choice according to sports books, and De Gea is still a clear number two. Here, Butland shouldn’t really be considered at that high of a price, as he provides almost no way to exceed his value.  On a slate this big, there are plenty of places to spend up top, so there is zero reason to spend up on goalkeeper. Cheap options here will be Elliot and Myhill.

The sports books liked Chelsea before the managerial sack, and I think they’ll like them even more now. As you can see, Diego Costa is best value here as well. It’s very hard for me to recommend Costa in cash games, and I’ll stand short of saying that, but he is certainly a good GPP option as long as he starts. Romelu Lukaku is probably the best option of the weekend overall, as he gets a plus matchup and is on a great streak at the moment. In form-strikers in good spots are hard to find, so I don’t mind spending up for Lukaku. Anthony Martial is also a good choice in GPPs, while Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy should also be considered. Cheap options this week are Gestede and Rondon.

Diego Costa is cheap enough on MondoGoal to where I would actually consider him in cash games. With prices a bit more normalized here on MondoGoal, Lukaku is clearly the top option. Martial is also cheap, and a better option than he is on DraftKings. There are once again a lot of cheap options at the bottom, but Rondon and Mitrovic seem like the best ones here on MondoGoal.

Good luck!
