2017 NASCAR.com Salary Caps

Each year, the NASCAR.com Fantasy Live salary caps are initially set in a manner that forces some decisions. Ten drivers are priced at more than $25 so that no one can top load the marquee racers. These are the drivers who not only finished the best in the points, but showed the greatest strength along the way.

All of the drivers listed below will go through swings. Riding the salary cap waves are a big part of being successful in one’s fantasy league. The vicissitudes of the values are another variable to keep track of and can provide a lot of entertainment during the season.

Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano have been the class of the field in the past three years. They challenged one another for the most top-10s, and –fives since the start of 2014, while running consistently at the front of the pack. NASCAR is now going to award segment points, and that means these two are likely to score even more. Harvick starts at $28 with Logano landing at $27.75.

Jimmie Johnson has scored the most wins in the past three years. One of these came in the most important race of 2016 and his Homestead-Miami Speedway victory also gave him the Championship. That made him a fairly easy choice for the third-most expensive driver at $27.50.

Below that, it was simply a matter of allowing the remainder of the top 10 to settle into a natural mark based on a Fantasy Power Ranking that was generated from a database of more than 600,000 records. For all that statistical muscle, however, these drivers will be full of surprises and continuously adjusted throughout the season. The goal is generally to keep the most expensive drivers in the $28-$25 range and as one falls another rises to take his place based on the number of fantasy points they are accumulating.

Hidden in the salary caps are some excellent values.

This year’s Rookie Class is going to be the best seen in more than a decade. Daniel Suarez and Erik Jones are the best bets to challenge for the top ROTY honors and they could earn as many points as Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney did last year. It is difficult to automatically assume that will happen, however, and they enter the year with price tags just under $20. If they come out of the gates strong, those numbers will rise quickly so fantasy players might want to add them to the roster early and hold on to one or the other.

Ty Dillon will challenge these two and could be the forgotten rookie. However, he is running for a team that does not have the same depth of pockets as Joe Gibbs Racing and the affiliated Furniture Row team. As a result, a balance was struck between the rookie’s potential and how Germain Racing performed in 2016.

Buy as low as possible and there will not be any reason to sell high.
