College Hoops DFS Plays: Sunday 3/14

Updated On: March 14, 2021, 11:35 am ET

Here we go with the College Hoops DFS evening slate! Both FanDuel and DraftKings are starting at 1:00 ET, so here are the odds for all of the games along with a note signaling which site it is listed on:

LSU vs. Alabama (-6) / Total: 157 - Both sites

Cincinnati vs. Houston (-13) / Total: 135 - Both sites

Ohio State vs. Illinois (-6) / Total: 148 - Both sites

VCU vs. St. Bonaventure (-3) / Total: 128 - DK Only

With that, let’s get to the daily fantasy analysis!

Herbert Jones - Alabama - FD: $8,200 - DK: $8,400

This is the best game to target on the slate. As you can see in the aforementioned odds, the 157 over/under is far and away the highest of the day. Alabama loves to play fast, and LSU should oblige. Herbert Jones is the best play of the day because of that, and I highly recommend building your lineups around him. Jones has posted 37 and 46 fantasy points respectively over the last two days, and he should be able to keep it going against an LSU team that ranks 216th in defensive efficiency.

Javonte Smart - LSU - FD: $6,500 - DK: $6,600

Let’s continue to pick from this high over/under. Smart is a capable mid-range lift who is having an excellent SEC Tournament to the tune of 29+ fantasy points in two straight. He should play nearly the entire game, and facing a fast-paced team like Alabama really helps. The CBB DFS Optimizer really likes him, and I’m in complete agreement.

Quentin Grimes - Houston - FD: 7,500 - DK: $8,000

Grimes is expensive, but he should be worth the cost. We’ll cover several bargain options at the forward position, so don’t worry about the cost of these recommended guards. Grimes is averaging a solid 30 FPPG mark on the season, and that’s a fair baseline heading into this game. The last time he faced Cincinnati, he went for 36 FP, and I like his chances of coming through with the Bearcats ranking 117th in defensive efficiency.

Also Consider: Keon Ellis, Adrian Baldwin Jr. (DK), Kyle Lofton (DK)

Justice Sueing - Ohio State - FD: $5,300 - DK: $5,600

Sueing is a nice bargain filler on this slate. He should continue to see a ton of minutes for the Buckeyes, especially with Kyle Young highly questionable to suit up. Sueing came through with 25 fantasy points in his last meeting with the Illini, and that’s a reasonable expectation in this Big Ten Championship Final. He would represent solid value with output in that range. Teammate Seth Towns doesn’t have much upside, but he’s dirt-cheap while filling in for 20-25 minutes if Young is out.

Jacob Grandison - Illinois - FD: $4,000 - DK: $3,900

Grandison is one of the best bargains on both sites according to our CBB DFS Optimizer. There’s not much upside to his game, as Cockburn and Dosunmu usually keep the stats for themselves. Still, Grandison will see 20-30 minutes, and he’s dirt-cheap on both DFS sites. I’m not categorizing him as a “can’t miss” value play, but he’s a decent filler to help you work in the other top dollar picks of this article.

Kofi Cockburn - Illinois - FD: $7,100 - DK: $8,500

Cockburn is too expensive on DraftKings. You also have more flexibility on DK with certain players having G/F eligibility - plus the extra game of VCU vs. St. Bonny. That leaves Cockburn as more of a realistic pick on FanDuel, where the $7,100 salary is acceptable. The big man has been fantastic with 36 and 39 fantasy points respectively in two tournament games, and he has a serious height advantage over Ohio State’s frontline.

Also Consider: Jaren Holmes (DK), Darius Days, E.J. Liddell
