In the Crease is back for the 2018-19 season. This column will provide you with everything you need to know about goaltending and who to start and sit in the upcoming week. I’ll give you some Great options, Good options and Goalies to avoid every week.
Tuukka Rask – Boston Bruins: Rask has won back-to-back games and he’s given up just one goal in those two outings. The Bruins will open the week with a tough matchup in Tampa before playing the Rangers and Panthers, who are both out of the playoffs. Rask should be a quality fantasy option next week.
Martin Jones – San Jose Sharks: Jones is on a three-game losing skid, but the Sharks will play three games at home next week. They’ll host the Red Wings, Blackhawks and Golden Knights. Jones has a 34-6-5 record with a 2.91 goals-against-average and a .898 save percentage this season.
Connor Hellebuyck – Winnipeg Jets: Hellebuyck has been victorious in each of his last three decisions. He has a 31-20-2 record with a 2.93 goals-against-average and a .912 save percentage this season. The Jets will play three consecutive home games against the Stars, Islanders and Canadiens.
Frederik Andersen – Toronto Maple Leafs: With the Leafs locked in to the third spot in the Atlantic Division, they’ve been giving backup goalie Garrett Sparks a little more action. Still, Andersen should get to make two starts over the next week. They’ll host the Panthers before taking the road for Philadelphia and Ottawa.
Braden Holtby – Washington Capitals: Holtby’s dropped each of his last three games and he’s given up four goals or more in two of those losses. The Caps will play two games against the Carolina Hurricanes and they’ll play the Lightning in Tampa Bay on Saturday night.
Carey Price – Montreal Canadiens: The Canadiens have played themselves back into the playoff race and Price is a big reason for that. The 31-year-old has 31-22-5 record with a 2.50 goals-against-average and a .917 save percentage this season. The schedule won’t be easy though, as they’ll host the Panthers before hitting the road against Columbus and Winnipeg.
Petr Mrazek – Carolina Hurricanes: The Hurricanes will have home-and-home series against the Washington Capitals in the middle of the week. They’ll also play the Flyers and Penguins in weekend games. Mrazek has just one loss in his last eight games.
Matt Murray – Pittsburgh Penguins: The Pens are in a battle for second spot in the Metropolitan Division and they could still pass the Caps for top spot. They’ll play a road game against the Rangers before hosting the Predators and Hurricanes. They’ll also get three days off between games.
