Jan. 13-19
Great Options
Tristan Jarry – Pittsburgh Penguins
Schedule: Tue vs. MIN, Thu at BOS, Fri at DET, Sun at BOS
The schedule won’t be easy for Jarry, as he’ll likely get three games against some tough competition next week. The two matchups against Boston will be particularly difficult, but a split would be good for his fantasy stock.
Jordan Binnington – St. Louis Blues
Schedule: Mon vs. ANA, Wed vs. PHI, Sat at COL
Binnington has won back-to-back games this week and he’s allowed just three total goals in the process. He owns a 21-7-4 record with a 2.49 goals-against-average and a .918 save percentage this season.
Frederik Andersen – Toronto Maple Leafs
Schedule: Tue vs. NJ, Thu vs. CGY, Sat vs. CHI
Andersen had an up-and-down week, but he made some huge saves in overtime against the Jets on Thursday night. He seems to be out of his little funk. The Leafs don’t have to leave Toronto next week, which should make it easier on the entire team. Andersen is a solid play.
Marc-Andre Fleury – Vegas Golden Knights
Schedule: Tue at BUF, Thu at OTT, Sat at MTL
The Golden Knights will be playing three games on the road next week, but they’re all against non-playoff teams on the East Coast. Even though Fleury hasn’t been at his best lately, he’s still found a way to win four of his last five games.
Good Options
Andrei Vasilevskiy – Tampa Bay Lightning
Schedule: Tue vs. LAK, Thu at MIN, Fri at WPG
The Lightning will head into their bye week after next week’s action. Vasilevsksiy has found his game after a rocky start to the year. He’s won seven games in a row and he’s given up two goals or fewer in four consecutive games.
Braden Holtby – Washington Capitals
Schedule: Mon vs. CAR, Thu vs. NJ, Sat at NYI
The 30-year-old has split starts with Ilya Samsonov over the last week and a bit. Holtby’s fantasy owners need to hope that things turn around for him quickly. He’s a bit of a risky play right now.
Sergei Bobrovsky – Florida Panthers
Schedule: Thu vs. LAK, Sat at DET
The Panthers only have two games on the schedule next week, but they’ll compete against two-non-playoff teams. The 31-year-old hasn’t been impressive during his first season with the Panthers, but there’s still enough to like about his fantasy stock going forward.
Carter Hart – Philadelphia Flyers
Schedule: Mon vs. BOS, Wed at STL, Thu vs. MTL, Sat vs. LAK
Hart is having an okay first full year in the NHL. He just put a three-game losing streak to bed by beating the Capitals and things are looking up. The matchups against Boston and St. Louis won’t be easy, but games against the Habs and Kings are plus-matchups.
Bad Options
Carey Price – Montreal Canadiens
Schedule: Mon vs. CGY, Wed vs. CHI, Thu at PHI, Sat vs. VGK
Price heads into this weekend on a six-game winless streak. The Habs are in the middle of another eight-game winless streak (their second of the season). The Canadiens have a lot of games this week, but you just can’t trust Price in most fantasy formats.
Jonathan Quick – Los Angeles Kings
Schedule: Tue at TB, Thu at FLA, Sat at PHI
Quick has lost five of his last six games and things only get tougher next week, as they hit the road for three games. The veteran had an 11-17-2 record with a 3.02 goals-against-average and a .895 save percentage this season.
