As I always mention, when looking for “bargains” on FanDuel, we are listing players under the $6,000 salary threshold. I will be ranking the value plays in terms of priority to your lineup.
Just a quick note that these player picks were organized early in the day. For the NBA, there is usually a plethora of news trickling out through the afternoon, which could open up some more value plays. Be sure to keep posted with the NBA Headlines & Injuries section, as the wonderful contributors over there will break down the DFS consequences of every piece of news.
Now onto the bargain plays:
1 - Clint Capela – C – Houston (FanDuel Price: $4,700)
Dwight Howard has been ruled out tonight, so Capela will assuredly see increased minutes in a high-scoring matchup with Dallas. He has been extremely efficient as of late, but the Rockets sometimes like to go small, squeezing Capela out of normal minutes. There is much less risk of that tonight with Howard ruled out. The last time Houston played the Mavericks (11/14), Capela finished with 23 FP in 23 minutes, and he has upside for much more tonight.
2 - Alex Len – C – Phoenix (FanDuel Price: $3,900)
Len is slightly cheaper than Capela, but he carries more risk as well. Tyson Chandler has been ruled out tonight, meaning Len will likely get another start. However, that doesn’t necessarily guarantee viable minutes, as foul trouble and smaller rotations factor into the mix. If Phoenix PF Markieff Morris (currently questionable) is also ruled out, that would thin the Suns frontcourt rotation, ultimately making Len a safer pick. As is though, I'd rather spend up for the security of Capela if able.
3 - Terrence Jones – PF – Houston (FanDuel Price: $5,600)
With Dwight Howard out, Jones will likely step into a starting role. In two recent games that Howard has missed, Jones put up 30 FP in 37 minutes vs New York and 38 FP in 42 minutes vs Dallas. He’ll face that same Dallas team tonight, the same one that has given up the fifth most fantasy points to opposing power forwards.
4 - Jon Leuer – PF – Phoenix (FanDuel Price: $4,000)
Speaking to the same situation in the previous write-up, we are waiting Markieff Morris’ status to determine if Leuer is a good play tonight. If Morris is out, Leuer becomes one of the best values on the board. If Morris is in, you can easily cross Leuer off your list. He started in Morris’ absence last game, pouring in 41 FP while seeing 39 minutes. He has been a very good fantasy producer off the bench all season, and a 30+ minute complement would translate to phenomenal value. Keep an eye out for Morris’ status.
5 - Jared Dudley – SF – Washington (FanDuel Price: $3,600)
The Wizards’ frontcourt is incredibly thin right now, as Gortat is officially out, plus Nene, Gooden, and Humphries all missed shoot-around. Dudley had been seeing 30 minutes a game while starting for Nene, and that would only increase with the additional injuries in place tonight. I should note that Dudley isn’t an inspiring fantasy performer, achieving just 0.60 FanDuel Points per Minute this year. Still, if he sees 32 minutes, that should translate to a 19 FP baseline, which is all you really need for this near-minimum tag.
6 - Patrick Beverley – PG – Houston (FanDuel Price: $3,900)
Since coming off injury in late November, Beverley is starting to see consistent minutes of 28-30+ as of late. You only need him to chip in around 20 fantasy points to pay off the cheap salary, something he has accomplished in four straight games. A high-scoring, up-tempo matchup with the Mavericks should inspire more of the same. Nevertheless, he’s a fine value PG2 if you are trying to squeeze in numerous studs, which looks like a good strategy in today’s DFS landscape.
7 - Wesley Matthews – SG – Dallas (FanDuel Price: $4,800)
After starting the season hindered by an injury, Matthews is finally stepping into his role for the Mavericks. He is seeing 36-40 minutes a game, which helps sustain his value through sheer attrition. His 18 FPPG mark on the season leaves room to be desired, but a fantastic, high-scoring matchup against a Houston team that ranks in the bottom ten vs SG’s sets up favorably for 23+ FP. On top of that, there aren’t many other inspiring value shooting guards tonight.
8 - Mo Williams – PG – Cleveland (FanDuel Price: $5,700)
Williams has not been very good recently, and I’m considering this more of a tournament recommendation than anything. Having said that, a matchup against New Orleans (given up second most FP to opposing PGs) couldn’t be much better. Williams is cheap based on the recent performance, and I would take a chance in a tournament if building multiple lineups.
9 - Mirza Teletovic – PF – Phoenix (FanDuel Price: $4,100)
Teletovic garners consideration only if Markieff Morris is ruled out. When deciding between the two Phoenix PF’s, I’d rather have Leuer, but rostering both and paying up everywhere else isn’t a bad tournament strategy. That is, if the injury situation permits.
10 - D’Angelo Russell – PG – LA Lakers (FanDuel Price: $5,200)
I’d approach Russell in the same way outlined above with Mo Williams. He’s not super-cheap, but he’s still slightly underpriced based on the recent production. Russell has been handling the ball much more, seeing 36+ minutes most nights. If that happens again, he could put up a solid return on investment in this spot.
