For "bargains" on FanDuel, typically we’ll focus on players who are priced at $6,000 or lower.
There are several fine options under that salary threshold for this full Friday slate of games. Because of this, I will be ranking the top ten value plays in terms of priority to your lineup.
Just a quick note that these player picks were organized early in the day. For the NBA, there is usually a plethora of news trickling out through the afternoon, which could open up some more value plays. Be sure to keep posted with the NBA Headlines & Injuries section, as the wonderful contributors over there will break down the DFS consequences of every piece of news.
Now onto the bargain plays:
1 - Mario Chalmers – PG – Memphis (FanDuel Price: $4,900)
Chalmers will probably be one of the most popular picks of any position tonight. Mike Conley is listed as doubtful, meaning Chalmers will be forced into heavy minutes once again. He put up 49 fantasy points in 39 minutes on Wednesday, and a matchup against Denver (27th in defensive efficiency vs point guards) looks juicy. It’s optimistic to think Chalmers can replicate the production from last game, but there’s a high probability he surpasses value at this cheap price point.
2 - Victor Oladipo – SG – Orlando (FanDuel Price: $6,000)
Oladipo was the top value pick on Wednesday, and he can be argued similarly (for the same reasons) tonight. Elfrid Payton has been ruled out for a third straight game, meaning Oladipo will continue to start and see 36+ minutes at the point guard position. Oladipo has hit 36 and 32 fantasy points respectively in that role, and he should build on that against a Brooklyn team that ranks 26th against opposing backcourt members.
3 - Tristan Thompson – PF – Cleveland (FanDuel Price: $4,600)
Thompson won’t give you a ton of upside, but he won’t put up a performance that hurts you either. His cheap salary will allow you to reach up for some top-dollar players you really want tonight, providing some respectable output himself. Thompson will continue to start for Cleveland, logging anywhere from 32-36 minutes a game. Facing a Minnesota team that ranks 20th vs power forwards and 24th vs centers seems like a decent spot for a nice stat line.
4 - Jeff Green – SF – Memphis (FanDuel Price: $4,800)
Green is a versatile player who could see time at SG, SF, and PF. That may come in handy tonight, as the Grizzlies will likely be without Mike Conley and Courtney Lee. In other words, Green’s minutes should be more solidified, and he could even see a marginal increase in a good matchup vs Denver.
5 - Darrell Arthur – PF – Denver (FanDuel Price: $3,700)
Kenneth Faried has been ruled out tonight, and Darrell Arthur is expected to pick up more minutes. The key word in that sentence is “expected”, as nothing is certain when it comes to the Denver frontcourt rotation. For that reason, I’ll consider Arthur more of a tournament play, as we aren’t really sure what type of workload he’ll see. If the Nuggets announce that Arthur is starting, that would help his case.
6 - Tony Allen – SG – Memphis (FanDuel Price: $4,000)
Tony Allen should benefit from the injuries in Memphis’ backcourt, seeing more minutes against a Denver team that ranks 29th in defensive efficiency vs opposing shooting guards. Not only that, but Denver’s “wide-open” style of play should help Allen fill up the stat sheet in the peripheral categories, bolstering some upside.
7 - George Hill – PG – Indiana (FanDuel Price: $5,600)
Hill is a fine play in a pinch, if you need a second value at point guard (on top of Chalmers). Even though Hill’s fantasy prospects are “middling” to begin with, the matchup is nice against a New Orleans team that ranks 29th in defensive efficiency against opposing point guards. He doesn’t have a ton of upside, but the matchup/price combination is enough to warrant consideration.
8 - Bojan Bogdanovic – SF – Brooklyn (FanDuel Price: $4,400)
Bogdanovic has been picking up more minutes with Brooklyn sustaining recent injuries. He has seen 32-35 minutes in each of the past four games, averaging a solid 26 fantasy points per contest over that span. He could maintain that mark in a competitive matchup with Orlando tonight.
9 - Devin Booker – SG – Phoenix (FanDuel Price: $3,900)
Honestly, I’m not sure what to make of Booker. The minutes and production have been somewhat erratic in recent games, but he has flashed enough upside to warrant tournament consideration. Booker has hit 33+ fantasy points in two of the past three games, but he has been hovering around the 15-16 FP threshold otherwise. The matchup is tough against Miami tonight, which is why he’s more of a tournament proposition than anything.
10 - Jonas Valanciunas – C – Toronto (FanDuel Price: $5,900)
Valanciunas has gotten better in each game since returning from injury on December 28. His most recent tilt (at Brooklyn) yielded 38 fantasy points in 30 minutes. It appears that Toronto is giving him more minutes as the games go along, which is certainly a good trend for his fantasy prospects. Facing an up-tempo Washington team doesn’t hurt either.
