FanDuel Bargain Bin: Friday

by Spencer Limbach

On FanDuel, typically we’ll focus on players who are priced at $6,000 or lower.

There are plenty of fine options under that salary threshold for this Friday slate of games. Because of this, I will be ranking the value plays in terms of priority to your lineup.

Just a quick note that these player picks were organized early in the day. For the NBA, there is usually a plethora of news trickling out through the afternoon, which could open up some more value plays. Be sure to keep posted with the NBA Headlines & Injuries section, as the wonderful contributors over there will break down the DFS consequences of every piece of news.

Now onto the bargain plays:

1 - Clint Capela – PF – Houston (FanDuel Price: $4,800)

Dwight Howard is out tonight, so Clint Capela and Terrence Jones will split his minutes on top of their already reasonable playing time. Capela has been the better producer all season, so he’s the play in this situation. It helps that Milwaukee has struggled against opposing big men this season, and their rebound rate is lagging as well.

2 - Frank Kaminsky – PG – Charlotte (FanDuel Price: $4,500)

Kaminsky has been pretty solid lately, hitting 20+ fantasy points over the last six games. His playing time and usage should see a slight boost as well, given that Cody Zeller has been ruled out of tonight’s contest. Expect Kaminsky to see 30+ minutes once again, which could translate to solid production against an Orlando team that ranks 22nd vs power forwards.

3 - Tyler Johnson – PG – Miami (FanDuel Price: $4,300)

Miami has been decimated by injuries, as Dwyane Wade, Goran Dragic, and Beno Udrih (among others) have been ruled out. That means Johnson should see a ton of minutes (over 40?) and shots while trying to keep the Heat competitive at Toronto. The matchup isn’t great, but an insane increase in usage should lead to a reasonable fantasy score tonight, even if it doesn’t come with much efficiency.

4 - Ty Lawson – PG – Houston (FanDuel Price: $3,800)

This pick is contingent on the status of Jason Terry, who is considered questionable tonight. Patrick Beverley has already been ruled out, so Terry’s absence would solidify Lawson with 33-36 minutes in this high-scoring game vs Milwaukee. If Terry is in, Lawson becomes slightly more risky, as they will presumably split the minutes.

5 - Spencer Hawes – C – Charlotte (FanDuel Price: $3,500)

Earlier, I mentioned that Cody Zeller will not play tonight. That vaults Spencer Hawes into the starting lineup, and he should see 30+ minutes in that role. For minimum salary, he’s a worthy investment in all formats, despite having the track record of a shaky fantasy producer. Hawes is averaging 0.85 FP/minute over the past ten games. If he maintains that mark tonight, he should hit 25-26 fantasy points, which would represent very nice value for the minimum price point.

6 - Jeremy Lin – PG – Charlotte (FanDuel Price: $5,200)

Lin is a good play that gets even better if Jeremy Lamb (questionable) is ruled out. Nicolas Batum is for sure not playing, which will help Lin eat up more minutes. Lamb’s absence would give him around 35+ minutes, which should lead to very solid fantasy production…even in a neutral matchup against Orlando.

7 - Terrence Jones – PF – Houston (FanDuel Price: $4,500)

As mentioned before, Clint Capela and Terrence Jones figure to see more minutes with Dwight Howard out. Capela is the better pick on paper, but they are both pretty similar in terms of overall projections. I’m leaning towards Capela, but I’m guessing other people will probably employ the same thought process. That could lead to Jones being under-owned in tournament situations, with a reasonable chance to out-produce his teammate.

8 - Jabari Parker – PF – Milwaukee (FanDuel Price: $5,100)

On a normal day, Parker would probably headline this list, as the matchup against Houston (dead last vs power forwards) is extremely good. He is still usable in all formats tonight, despite the reality that other, cheaper bargains have emerged. His projection falls in line with guys like Capela, Jones, and Kaminsky, but Parker may have a better chance at hitting that mark with more assured playing time than those three.

9 - Justice Winslow – SF – Miami (FanDuel Price: $3,700)

Winslow will probably see a bunch of minutes tonight, as Luol Deng has also been ruled out for Miami. He was already seeing 27-35 minutes with Deng in the lineup, and now even more playing time will free up. The matchup against Toronto isn’t great, but the chance at 36+ minutes at this near-minimum salary is tough to pass up.

10 - Boban Marjanovic – C – San Antonio (FanDuel Price: $3,500)

Boban was awesome last night, hitting 33 FP in 22 minutes at Phoenix. Before you get too excited, consider that Tim Duncan sat out that game, and he’s expected to come back tonight. That’s where the risk comes in, as we don’t know how many minutes Marjanovic will see. However, if this game gets out of hand, he could see some extended run against the worst team against opposing centers. Look to Boban only in tournaments.
