The weather in Denver looks great for tonight’s matchup between the Rockies and the Brewers and when you factor in the temperature and humidity the game has an Air Density Index of 39, which is lighter than usual for Coors, which is usually in the 40s and 50s while most parks closer to sea level are in the mid 60’s usually. So the best hitters’ park in baseball just got even better, so feel free to do your usual or more stacking.
Besides the great park factor in Colorado we of course have some other nice matchups for hitters tonight. The Cardinals in Philadelphia vs Phillippe Aumont, the Cubs in Minnesota vs Phil Hughes, the Blue Jays vs the Orioles and Mike Wright, the Padres at Arizona vs Rubby De La Rosa, the Orioles at Toronto vs Marco Estrada, the Reds vs Miami and Dan Haren, the Marlins in Cincinnati vs Mike Leake, the Yankees vs Detroit and Justin Verlander and I’ll stop there so we can move on to the picks! But it’s safe to say there are plenty of good matchups out there tonight.
DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH
Kyle Schwarber – OF – CHC (FanDuel Price: $2,500) What can you say about this kid? He killed it in AA enough to get the call to play DH while the Cubs face AL teams in away games and he already has six hits in just ten at bats with a triple, home run, and four RBIs. At some point teams will be able to slow him down, but Phil Hughes is a pitcher he should be able to stay hot against. Hughes has allowed a .345 wOBA to righties so far this season and has given up nine home runs to them at a rate of 1.8 per nine innings. A-
Alcides Escobar – SS – KAN (FanDuel Price: $2,400) Escobar has heated up of late with eight hits in his last four games, including a double, triple, six RBIs, no strikeouts and one stolen base. He’ll face lefty Eduardo Rodriguez, who was pitching well until getting blown up in his last start for 9 runs in 4.2 innings. B
Chris Colabello – OF – TOR (FanDuel Price: $2,900) I’d rather have Colabello vs a lefty, but the way he’s hitting right now I’m not going to fade him for that, especially since he’s hitting righties for a .325 average this season and has faced them four times as often as lefties. On the season he’s hitting for an overall .342 average and .382 wOBA with both of those number going up at home. He’ll face Mike Wright who put up 14 innings of shut out ball to start his career in Baltimore, but his last three starts have not been as productive, having given up 13 earned runs in his last 14 innings pitched. B+
Chris Parmelee – OF -- (FanDuel Price: $2,200) Were Parmelee’s three home runs in two games a fluke? Probably, but at 2.2K against a fly ball pitcher in a great hitters’ park? I think I’ll take the risk. B+
Yonder Alonso – 1B – SDP (FanDuel Price: $2,600) I do enjoy picking on Mr. Rubby De La Rosa, but not because I’m a bully. I’m sure he’d crunch me into a garbage can with the greatest of ease, but he does give up hits to opposing batters with a similar ease, especially lefties who are batting a stout .423 wOBA against him this season. He’s also allowed 10 home runs to lefties at a rate of 2.5 HR/9. That’s impressively poor. B
Adam Eaton – OF – CWS (FanDuel Price: $2,600) Eaton isn’t going to put up huge numbers, but he’ll be consistent with a little bit of upside due to his stolen base ability. He’ll face the righty Colby Lewis who is giving up a .348 wOBA to lefties this season and owns a poor 4.4 K/9 rate against them as well. Eaton should be able to get on base and that’s the first goal. C+
Adrian Gonzalez – 1B – LAD (FanDuel Price: $3,100) AGon started off hotter than any player in baseball, but has fallen all the way into Bargain Bin material just recently. Chris Heston, who did just throw a no-hitter, but has also been rocked by lefties so far in his career, makes for a good pitcher to target, especially in tourneys. B-
Billy Hamilton – OF – CIN (FanDuel Price: $3,200) Hamilton’s price has fallen and that puts him in tournament gamble-ville. His upside rests in his legs and comes out when he’s stealing bases. He’ll be facing the 8 foot tall Dan Haren and should be able to get a good jump on him as long as he can get on base. C+
Dee Gordon – 2B – MIA (FanDuel Price: $3,100) Gordon had been slumping compared to his ridiculously hot start, but now has two three-hit games in his last three and gets a nice chance of wreaking havoc on Mike Leake in the stolen base department. B+
