FanDuel Bargain Bin: Monday

We have eight games to ply tonight. The weather report for Pittsburgh suggests we should avoid that match.

The Padres’ righty-heavy lineup should be of interest against Jorge de la Rosa at Coors Field. Over his career, de la Rosa has allowed a .266/.353/.445 line to right-handed hitters. He’s returning from injury for his 2015 debut, so he could show a little rust. Even if it’s a typical day for de la Rosa, the Padres have several hitters worth targeting in the bargain bin.

Derek Norris – C – SDP (FanDuel Price: $2,800)

The top cheap Padre to target is Norris. He’s a career .301/.379/.492 hitter against southpaws. The extreme platoon split would make him a solid play at Petco Park. That the game is at Coors is all the more reason to target him tonight.

Carlos Santana – 1B – CLE (FanDuel Price: $3,200)

John Danks doesn’t appear to have much left in the tank. The soft-tossing lefty induces few strikeouts, so he’s entirely reliant on his defense. Santana does his best work from the left side of the plate, but he isn’t penalized too heavily when batting right-handed. He has an affordable price today and will play at homer friendly U.S. Cellular Field.

Mike Moustakas – 3B – KAN (FanDuel Price: $3,100)

The Royals new two-hole has a lovely .304/.407/.478 line on the season. In a small sample of 56 plate appearances, he’s making more contact and using the whole field. Some teams have even ceased shifting against him. While we shouldn’t anticipate such a lofty triple slash to hold up for the season, he could easily outperform his current price tag.

Also Consider: Chase Headley – 3B – NYY … Jed Lowrie – SS – HOU … Matt Joyce – OF – LAA

Brandon Phillips – 2B – CIN (FanDuel Price: $2,700)

Phillips hits (relatively) well against ground ball pitchers. He has a .746 OPS against them over the last three seasons. He’ll face Wily Peralta at Miller Park. Phillips no longer offers much power or speed, but he can still notch multiple hits while batting in the top half of the Reds lineup.

Dustin Ackley – OF – SEA (FanDuel Price: $2,800)

Ackley is somewhat better than the typical punt. He’s introduced more loft into his swing and already has three home runs. He’s up against fly ball pitcher Asher Wojciechowski. His stuff is extremely hittable. Ackley should have a shot at multiple hits or even another home run.

Melky Cabrera – OF – CWS (FanDuel Price: $2,700)

The Melk Man is off to a slow start with a .261/.261/.283 line. He looks fine at the plate, he just hasn’t walked or hit for power yet. Today’s game is at hitter friendly U.S. Cellular Field against Trevor Bauer. The Indians’ righty has shown good strikeout stuff this season, but Cabrera’s high contact approach should play well.

Also Consider: Roberto Perez – C – CLE … Kennys Vargas – 1B – MIN … Jedd Gyorko – 2B – SDP

Mike Zunino – C – SEA (FanDuel Price: $2,400)

The Mariners stack against Wojciechowski is partially flawed. The game is at Safeco Field. While the park is closer to neutral than many realize, it does favor pitchers. Zunino hits best against fly ball pitchers with a .747 OPS. He won’t have the platoon advantage, but there is a chance he’ll tap into his power potential.

Jung-ho Kang – SS – PIT (FanDuel Price: $2,400)

Jordy Mercer appears likely to sit with a minor rib injury. If the weather forecast clears up, Kang could make for a sneaky power play. Kang is an aggressive power hitter who should show 20 home run ability once he’s playing regularly. The Pirates have a difficult matchup against Jake Arrieta. Taking everything into account, the odds are against Kang.

Seth Smith – OF – SEA (FanDuel Price: $2,400)

Smith frequently bats second for the Mariners against right-handed pitchers. He generally hits more grounders than flies which makes him a good play against Wojciechowski. He also has the platoon advantage. If only this game was in Houston.

Also Consider: Ike Davis – 1B – OAK … Will Middlebrooks – 3B – SDP … Brad Miller – SS – SEA
