FanDuel Bargain Bin
In this column, I generally set $6000 as the bargain threshold, and I try to indicate when I think a position is particularly well-suited--or not--to using the cheap plays given the landscape of the particular slate.
Ramon Sessions $4600: All three of Thursday night’s games should be fun to watch and high scoring. Point guards facing Russell Westbrook and the Thunder have traditionally fared well, as they are a perennial top five team in fantasy points allowed to the position. Sessions might not be a special talent, but he is a capable ball handler and should be a safe piece in your cash game lineup tonight.
Patrick Beverley $5400: Beverley can fill the stat sheet in a number of ways, which gives him a typically high floor for his price. A matchup with the young Lakers backcourt is a nice spot for him to put up a multi-steal game.
Norman Powell $4700: We are waiting to hear if Powell will start tonight for the Raptors; if so I like him a lot. We saw him exceed value several times last year when he started with DeMar DeRozan out, and at this price, in this matchup with the Bulls, he should do so tonight with ease.
Jordan Clarkson $4700: Clarkson, too, is a very attractive SG option for DFS tonight at this price point, and you will need to be looking in this price range on this slate. Clarkson will come off the bench for the Lakers, but has been very productive in that role. He’s fully capable of a 20-point effort tonight.
Brandon Ingram $5800: Ingram is likely to be quite popular tonight, with his mid-range salary and broad skill set. He should rack up double digit points and perhaps multiple steals in what should be the night’s highest scoring game.
C.J. Miles $4000: Miles had an impressive preseason, and though he’s a player with a wide range of outcomes, his price and opportunity against Chicago are worth noting in tournaments. Likely coming off the bench for Toronto, I really can’t say who he’ll see in the Bulls’ second unit, but it won’t be scary. Good three-point shooters in good matchups at this price are the very definition of upside.
None! Blake Griffin is a must play tonight, and you’re pairing him with either Kristaps Porzingis, or saving a little bit with Julius Randle or Lauri Markkanen, both of whom exceed the Bargain Bin threshold for salary.
Willy Hernangomez $5600: I’m slotting Hernangomez in here ahead of the official Knicks lineup because I think he deserves the starting spot at center. Enes Kanter is a great option off the bench, as he has proven for years in Oklahoma City. It’s Hernangomez’ time to shine, and given near 30 minutes a night, I think he can pay dividends both for us in DFS and the Knicks in general. In that mpg range, he’s a lock for a double-double.
