The Padres put on a show last night in Colorado scoring 14 runs and going deep into the Rockies’ bullpen. And with lefty Tyler Matzek on the bump, there’s no reason to not believe they can put up good numbers again.
The Padres lead the league with a .388 wOBA against lefties this season while Matzek gave up a .367 wOBA to righties last season. I’d feel quite comfortable rolling out any right-handed Padres tonight in the thin Mile High air.
DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH
Derek Norris – C – SDP (FanDuel Price: $3,000) Norris has been hitting well of late with six hits in his last 10 at bats. He takes on a lefty in Matzek in Coors and he had a great .390 wOBA against lefties last season and is batting .692 against them so far this season. For his price and position, he’s going to be owned widely and for good reason.
Kendrys Morales – 1B – KAN (FanDuel Price: $2,700) Morales has been extremely steady so far this year with 16 hits in 42 at bats, including a couple homers. He hasn’t had a negative FanDuel game and ranks fifth in FanDuel Points for first basemen. At his price he’s hard to dismiss.
Jake Lamb – 3B – ARI (FanDuel Price: $2,700) Lamb has a nice slash line of .414/.514/.690 with one homer and nine RBI this season and he’s done most of that work against right-handers like Nick Martinez. Martinez has given up a .354 wOBA to lefties in his career and Lamb should have a good shot of putting up numbers in Arizona’s hitter friendly ballpark where he has a .341 wOBA.
Tim Beckham – SS – TAM (FanDuel Price: $2,300) Beckham hasn’t had many chances against lefties so far in the majors, but when he has, he’s done well. In just 14 at bats against lefties he has four hits, including two home runs. Wade Miley can be hit as witnessed in his last start when he was rocked by the Nationals for seven runs in two innings.
Jedd Gyorko – 2B – SDP (FanDuel Price: $2,900) Like I said, there’s no reason to shy away from Padres’ hitters, especially of the right-handed variety. And Gyorko has been better against lefties in his career as you might expect.
Michael Bourn – OF – CLE (FanDuel Price: $2,500) Cleveland was one of the top hitting teams last season against right-handed hitters with a plethora of good left-handed bats, but so far they’ve been slow to get on track. Tonight would be a good time to do so facing righty Hector Noesi who has been rocked by both lefties and righties so far, but gives up more homers to lefties with a 1.64 HR/9 ratio. I’d feel good about stacking Cleveland even with their slow start.
David Peralta – OF – ARI (FanDuel Price: $3,000) When Peralta gets a chance to play he’s been hitting well this season. He’ll mostly hit against right-handed pitchers since his splits highly favor him with a .372 wOBA last season and that’s one thing Martinez is, a righty.
Christian Yelich – OF – MIA (FanDuel Price: $3,200) The Marlins head to Philly’s hitters’ park to take on righty Jerome Williams and it all adds up for a great play for any Marlin lefties, which unfortunately are just Yelich and Dee Gordon, but both make great plays with Williams giving up a .342 wOBA at home and a .347 wOBA against lefties last season.
Jason Kipnis – 2B – CLE (FanDuel Price: $3,200) Kipnis has a career .338 wOBA against lefties and gets the nice Noesi matchup. So far this season he is hitting with a .345 average against righties and a .112 average against lefties.
