FanDuel Bargain Bin: Wednesday

The Kansas City Royals lowest run total this season has been three runs and they’ve averaged 5.79 per game along with 10.71 hits, which is second and first in the majors respectively. Right now they are striking out a league low 4.57 times per game and the second best team are the New York Mets with 5.86! They are locked in and in DFS you can easily appreciate the high contact rate to keep you out of negative points.

Tonight they face the Twins’ Mike Pelfrey who the active Royals have hit 38 times in 98 at bats for a .396 average and a .552 slugging percentage.  Over the last three seasons the righty Pelfrey has actually been hit more by righties shown by his .386 wOBA against them, but lefties have shown a bit more power with a home run per nine innings. For me this all adds up to a KC stack as a counter to the Padres/Rockies stacks that will be common as they continue to play in Colorado.

Editor's Note: You might be overthinking your daily fantasy MLB strategy each day - and it might be getting in the way of you building better FanDuel lineups. Check out this article "That Time I Did Not Quit Daily Fantasy Sports" by RotoGrinders' JM "JMtoWin" Tohline for some tips on fantasy research, life priorities and everything in between - as well as a few of his top picks for this week.

DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH

Jay Bruce – OF – CIN (FanDuel Price: $3,000) Another good stack should be the Reds against the Brewers’ Jimmy Nelson. Nelson gives up more than a homer per nine innings to lefties and the Reds have two strong lefties in Joey Votto and Bruce. Of the two, Bruce is easily the bargain play and has a nice .340 wOBA against righties.

Alex Gordon – OF – KAN (FanDuel Price: $3,100) Gordon hit his first homer of the season last night and has shown a bit more pop of late with that homer and two doubles in his last 13 at bats.  He’s one of the many Royals who have a nice matchup against Pelfrey, but I think he’s ready to do some damage against the righty.

Mike Moustakas – 3B – KAN (FanDuel Price: $3,000) Moose has been hitting well this season with a .327/.413/.545 slash line and gets Pelfrey, who is worse against righties, but not great against lefties, who he allows more homers to.  Moustakas also has a nice lineup slot in the 2 hole in what should be a high scoring game for the Royals.

Also Consider: Alcides Escobar – SS – KAN . . . Kevin Plawecki – C -- NYM

VIABLE PUNTS

Christian Colon/Omar Infante – 2B – KAN (FanDuel Price: $2,200) This is based purely on splits, price and stackability. If Infante returns for this game I like him better than Colon, but either make for a price saver to fit someone like David Price in at pitcher.

Alejandro De Aza – OF – BAL (FanDuel Price: $2,900) De Aza hit a slump in Boston and got the day off against the lefty Buehrle last night, so his price has dropped, but his early production as the lead off hitter for the Orioles was good with 20 total bases in just his first eight games.  He faces righty Aaron Sanchez in Toronto with the second highest over/under of the night. There should be plenty of scoring in this one and lefties have killed Sanchez is his limited time in the majors.

Zack Cozart – SS – CIN (FanDuel Price: $2,500) Cozart has been on an absolute tear with four homers over his last four games. Jimmy Nelson isn’t someone to avoid and with Cozart ‘s price and recent production it’s hard not to consider him, even if we know these numbers won’t last long term.

Also Consider: Paulo Orlando – OF – KAN . . . Eric Campbell – 3B -- NYM

TOURNAMENT GAMBLES

Seth Smith – OF – SEA (FanDuel Price: $2,400) Smith is strictly a platoon player against righties, which makes sense with his .344 wOBA against them and his .286 wOBA against lefties. He started out hot this season, but cooled down quickly, along with his price tag. Roberto Hernandez has allowed a big .365 wOBA to lefties over the last three seasons, including a 1.47 HR/9 ratio and Smith should have a good shot for a home run.

Danny Santana SS – MIN  (FanDuel Price: $3,000) The Royals make for a good stack, but the Twins also get a nice matchup against Jeremy Guthrie. Guthrie has given up 8 runs in his first 13 innings and a .321 average to lefties. Santana has hit righties for a nice .351 wOBA in his career.

Kendrys Morales – 1B – KAN (FanDuel Price: $2,900) I’m going back to that Royals’ well with Morales who is hitting .360 against righties this season with a .600 SLG% and a 1.067 OPS.

Also Consider: Danny Espinosa – 2B – WAS . . . Logan Morrison – 1B -- SEA
