FanDuel Bargain Bin: Wednesday

by Spencer Limbach
Updated On: October 4, 2018, 4:04 pm ET

On FanDuel, typically we’ll focus on players who are priced at $6,000 or lower.

There are plenty of fine options under that salary threshold for this Wednesday slate of games. Because of this, I will be ranking the value plays in terms of priority to your lineup.

Just a quick note that these player picks were organized early in the day. For the NBA, there is usually a plethora of news trickling out through the afternoon, which could open up some more value plays. Be sure to keep posted with the NBA Headlines & Injuries section, as the wonderful contributors over there will break down the DFS consequences of every piece of news.

Now onto the bargain plays:

1 - Otto Porter – SF – Washington (FanDuel Price: $6,100)

Porter technically exceeds our “bargain threshold” of $6000, but he’s such an instrumental value tonight that is worth mentioning. Washington will continue to have a thin frontcourt tonight, meaning Porter should see solidified minutes and a higher rebound rate. That will especially hold true if the Wizards roll out some “smaller” rotations. That seems likely against a Milwaukee team that likes to play “small” themselves. Porter is a great pick in all formats tonight.

2 - Ryan Anderson – PF – New Orleans (FanDuel Price: $5,500)

Anthony Davis is questionable tonight, and he has missed the past three games. Anderson has played extended minutes throughout that span (averaging 40 mpg), hitting 38, 26, and 25 fantasy points respectively. The matchup against Sacramento is great, as this is the highest projected scoring game of the day (214 over/under), and the Kings rank 24th vs opposing power forwards. Since this is a late game, there’s a chance we won’t be able to confirm Davis’ status before lineups lock. However, back injuries are difficult to bounce-back from (no pun intended), which may lead to more rest for AD. Even if Davis plays, Anderson could still see more than typical minutes in this great matchup (if New Orleans is cautious with Davis).

3 - J.J. Barea – PG – Dallas (FanDuel Price: $4,200)

There are some rumblings that Dallas may rest several starters on tonight’s back-to-back. Definitely keep an eye out for confirmation, but it seems that Deron Williams and Dirk Nowitzki (if not more) are on the chopping block. If Williams is out, Barea will step into the starting lineup and own a much higher usage rate than usual. For the cheap salary, he would be a top-flight pick in that scenario.

4 - Arron Afflalo – SG – New York (FanDuel Price: $4,700)

Carmelo Anthony is questionable tonight. If he’s out, plenty of shot opportunities will open up for the Knicks, and a good share of them will likely go to Afflalo. He has flexed some nice upside in previous games with Carmelo out, and a matchup with Brooklyn (24th in defensive efficiency vs SGs) only helps the matter.

5 - Dwight Powell – PF – Dallas (FanDuel Price: $3,800)

This is another pick contingent upon the Mavericks’ plan tonight. If Dirk Nowitzki is out, Charlie Villanueva and Dwight Powell will soak up his minutes. Even though Villanueva started the last time Dirk sat, Powell was the more valuable fantasy asset, hitting 35 FP in 30 minutes. He has a well-rounded game with potential to pick up fantasy points in every category, making him a very good cheap pick if Nowitzki is out.

6 - Drew Gooden – PF – Washington (FanDuel Price: $3,800)

Marcin Gortat is out and Kris Humphries is doubtful. In other words, Washington will be shorthanded up front once again. Gooden logged 27 minutes off the bench in that situation last game, hitting 30 FP in 27 minutes. He’ll likely split playing time with Nene Hilario, but Gooden is the better fantasy producer of those two. It helps that he’ll be playing a Milwaukee team that struggles on the glass.

7 - Robin Lopez – C – New York (FanDuel Price: $4,500)

If you need a cheap center, Robin Lopez is the pick. He’s going up against his brother Brook tonight (extra motivation?), and the Nets rank 20th vs opposing big men this season. Also, if Carmelo Anthony is ruled out, Porzingis will likely play more minutes in the PF spot, solidifying Lopez’s time at the center position. He’s a steady pick regardless of Anthony’s status.

8 - Rodney Hood – SG – Utah (FanDuel Price: $5,300)

Hood is a solid value play, and we will mainly look to him if the injury situation doesn’t work out for Arron Afflalo. Hood bounced-back from a one game absence to hit 29 FP in 32 minutes last game, and he has a decent matchup vs a Portland team that ranks 20th in defensive efficiency vs shooting guards this season.

9 - Emmanuel Mudiay – PG – Denver (FanDuel Price: $5,000)

Mudiay is mostly a tournament pick, who is also cash game playable in a pinch. He logged heavy minutes (39) in his first game after an extended absence on Sunday. While Jameer Nelson will be back (missed last game), Mudiay should still see 34-36 minutes in this fast-pace, high-scoring matchup against Golden State. He has upside for the price in this situation.

10 - Shabazz Muhammad – SF – Minnesota (FanDuel Price: $3,800)

Very quietly, Shabazz has been churning out some very nice value as of late. He has hit 25+ FP in four of the past five games, seeing more playing time due to that success. Can we expect more of the same moving forward? I’m not exactly sure, as Minnesota’s rotation seems to change on a per-game basis. However, If Muhammad sees another 28-30 minute complement, he could be a great play against a Houston team that ranks 27th vs small forwards this season. Consider him a nice risk/reward tournament proposition.
