FanDuel Fades: April 2

Updated On: October 4, 2018, 4:04 pm ET

Welcome to FanDuel Fades, where we focus on players you might want to avoid today.  There are three different play options for Sunday, with one focused on all 11 games from 12:30 p.m. onward, another dealing with just the three early afternoon games that go from 3:00 p.m. ET to 5:00 p.m. ET, and one that deals with the seven evening games that start at 6:00 p.m. ET or later.  I'll start by highlight some players from the earlier contests before moving onto the evening games.

Brock Nelson (NYI) - C - $4,600

When it comes to the early games, there's not much in the way of pricey centers, especially with Evgeni Malkin and John Tavares both injured.  Consequently, Nelson is actually the seventh most expensive center, not counting those that are injured.  However he hasn't been particularly good lately as he has a goal and an assist in his last nine games.

Justin Schultz (PIT) - D - $6,300

Schultz has excelled in 2016-17 with 12 goals and 48 points in 74 games.  He's gone quiet lately though as he's been held off the scoresheet in his last five games and has just two assists in his last 11 contests.

Anders Lee (NYI) - W - $4,800

Lee has averaged 10.7 FanDuel points per game, which is fine at his relatively inexpensive price.  However, he's been getting minutes with John Tavares lately and that will come to an end due to Tavares' injury.  With that in mind, Lee is a less desirable option now.

Patric Hornqvist (PIT) - W - $6,400

Hornqvist has been held off the scoresheet in five of his last six games.  He has averaged 12.9 FanDuel points per game, which is fairly good for his price, but as long as he's cold he's not a great option.

Tyler Seguin (DAL) - C - $8,000

Moving onto the evening games, Seguin is going through a cold patch with two goals and three points in his last 11 games.  It doesn't help that the Stars, which are already out of the hunt for a playoff spot, will be playing against a Tampa Bay Lightning squad that desperately needs to win this contest.

Cam Atkinson (CLM) - W - $7,000

Atkinson has a goal and no assists in his last seven games.  On top of that, the Blue Jackets will be playing against Washington tonight, so goals might be particularly hard to come by.

Joe Thornton (SJS) - C - $5,300

With a FanDuel average of 7.9 points per game, Thornton typically hasn't been a good bet this season despite his modest price.  That's been particularly true lately as he has a goal and an assist in his last seven games.

Mark Giordano (CAL) - D - $5,700

Giordano is in the midst of a bit of a dry spell as he has no goals and an assist in his last six contests.  If you're looking for a defenseman in that price range, Kevin Shattenkirk ($5,600) has been fairly hot with five points in his last four games.

Mikael Granlund (MIN) - W - $6,500

Granlund has gone seven games without a goal and he just has one assist over that span.  To make matters worse he has just six shots in his last five games, so he hasn't been getting points that way either.

Jeff Carter (LAK) - C - $7,300

Carter has been limited to a goal and an assist in his last eight games.  Maybe Carter has one good hot streak left in him this season, but it's best to wait and see for now.
