FanDuel MLB Bargains Wednesday

by Spencer Limbach
Updated On: October 4, 2018, 4:04 pm ET

When looking at “bargains” on FanDuel, we'll typically focus on hitters who are $3,200 or lower. In general, we'll only highlight players at the top end of that scale if they have star potential.

We are concentrating on the main slate today starting at 7:05 ET. There are 11 matchups within this timeframe, meaning I will rank the top ten value plays by priority to your lineups.

Please note, these player picks were organized early in the day. For MLB contests, always check lineups and weather closer to game time. Rain, wind, or unexpected managerial decisions could open up additional sources of value. Be sure to keep an eye on the MLB Headlines and Injuries desk. You can double check that your players are in the starting lineup by viewing our MLB Lineups page later in the day.

Now onto the bargain plays.

1 - Brian McCann – C – NY Yankees (FanDuel Price: $3,100)

This one is a pretty easy pick for all formats. McCann is economically priced, sitting on a great matchup against the washed-up likes of Jered Weaver, and the Yankees check in as the highest projected scoring team of the day. In other words, McCann has very good RBI and homerun upside in Yankee Stadium, considering Weaver has allowed 27 earned runs and 10 homers over his last six starts.

2 - Rougned Odor – 2B – Texas (FanDuel Price: $3,100)

I really like this salary on Odor, and he appears to be a great option in all formats. He’s in his hitter-friendly home park, facing Doug Fister’s .343 wOBA against left-handed hitters. The Rangers are expected to make some noise on offense tonight, and Odor has the necessary “pop” to contribute.

3 - Brandon Moss – 1B – St. Louis (FanDuel Price: $3,000)

I mentioned earlier how the Yankees are the highest projected scoring team of the night. Well, the Cardinals aren’t far behind, as they get a nice park shift in Cincinnati, facing Alfredo Simon’s generous .382 wOBA and 15.4% HR/FB splits against left-handed hitters. Moss is one of several lefties that could easily take advantage, smacking three homers in his past four games. However, Moss doesn’t necessarily play everyday, so we’ll need to double check that he’s in the lineup.

4 - Robbie Grossman – OF – Minnesota (FanDuel Price: $2,900)

Grossman has been on a tear since getting called up by the Twins in mid-May, yet he’s still priced below $3,000. I’m suggesting you take advantage of that salary discrepancy, as the Minnesota switch-hitting outfielder has another solid matchup against Wei-Yin Chen. Chen is allowing a .339 wOBA rate to right-handed hitters, and Grossman has historically been better from the right-side of the plate. He has smacked two homers in the past two games, also collecting multiple hits in three of the last six.

5 - Ben Revere – OF – Washington (FanDuel Price: $2,500)

James Shields will make his White Sox debut tonight, which is a good thing for the Washington left-handers. Shields holds a massive .372 wOBA and 20.8% HR/FB split against lefties, and the park shift in Chicago won’t help his cause. Harper, Murphy, and Revere are the best Nationals to take advantage of this susceptibility, and Revere is the bargain pick of that bunch. Of course, he has great lineup security hitting ahead of Harper and company.

6 - Kike Hernandez – OF – LA Dodgers (FanDuel Price: $2,600)

The Dodgers are facing a lefty tonight, meaning Kike will likely hit atop the order. He has been very good in that role this season, and opposing pitcher Chris Rusin holds a .358 wOBA and 12.3% split against righties. I don’t mind Hernandez as a filler in any format.

7 - Lorenzo Cain – OF – Kansas City (FanDuel Price: $3,100)

I’m referencing Cain as more of a tournament option. Chris Tillman has exceeded expectations for the most part this season, but he still holds an elevated .334 wOBA and 16.5% HR/FB split against righties. That homerun rate is something we are looking to target with Cain, who gets a nice park shift in Camden Yards as well.

8 - Brian Dozier – 2B – Minnesota (FanDuel Price: $3,300)

Dozier is finally rounding into his All-Star profile from last season, smacking two homers in the past five while collecting two multi-hit games over that span as well. We all know he’s a lefty-masher by nature, which makes a draw against southpaw Wei-Yin Chen (.339 wOBA split) very enticing this evening.

9 - Justin Turner – 3B – LA Dodgers (FanDuel Price: $2,700)

There’s a lot of opportunity cost at third base, especially at the higher end of the salary spectrum. However, if you need savings in this spot, Turner is a fine fallback option. He has the same intriguing righty/lefty matchup outlined in the Kike Hernandez write-up, and Turner’s salary is lower than his true talent level in this spot.

10 - Didi Gregorius – SS – NY Yankees (FanDuel Price: $2,400)

Gregorius serves as a cheap shortstop filler with some upside. Even though he finds himself towards the bottom of New York’s order, he has some homerun pop in Yankee Stadium and RBI potential backing up the heart of the order. As mentioned earlier, the Yankees are the highest projected scoring team of the night, and DIdi could find himself a part of that.
