FanDuel MLB Plays: Friday

Friday’s MLB slate is loaded up with some good hitting environments to target, and we’ve also got a good pitcher in an elite spot. Let's hop into the analysis and see what we can find in terms of top FanDuel targets.

Pitcher

Jacob deGrom, New York Mets, $11,800 - deGrom is the standout pitching option if you are planning to spend at the position. He does come with an elevated price tag due to a relatively hot stretch of games, with the exception of one blowup performance. Still, tonight he will have the benefit of facing off with the depleted lineup of the Miami Marlins. deGrom is a sizable favorite at -175 with a low total of only seven runs on the MLB odds board.

Collin McHugh, Houston Astros, $9,000 - After a rough start to the season, McHugh has really turned things around. He has reached double digit fantasy points in five consecutive starts and draws a solid home matchup against the Minnesota Twins tonight. The Twins are a team that is much more effective against LHP than RHP, and McHugh and the Astros are solid favorites at -170 in this game.

Catcher

Evan Gattis, Houston Astros, $3,100 - When you consider the power potential of Gattis, the $3,100 price tag becomes very appealing. Deriving power from the catcher position can be difficult, but Gattis provides just that. The Astros offense is also in a phenomenal spot when they face off with Mike Pelfrey, who has struggled against both right- and left-handed bats this season.

Others to consider: Buster Posey, Russell Martin

First Base

Adam Lind, Milwaukee Brewers, $4,100 - Lind is one of my favorite plays on the board tonight when he faces Keyvius Sampson in Cincinnati. He was one of the best hitters in baseball against RHP last season (top 10 in wOBA vs. RHP), and this season has not been much different, as Lind is carrying a wOBA of .378 against RHP. Plus, the total in this game is sitting at nine runs, which is appealing for DFS purposes.

Adrian Gonzalez, Los Angeles Dodgers, $3,000 - At his current price point of $3,000, Gonzalez is a viable option at first base against homer prone James Shields. Obviously the matchup is not ideal against Shields, but the fact that he has struggled in terms of allowing the long ball, combined with a low price for A-Gon, makes the play acceptable.

Second Base

Jose Altuve, Houston Astros, $3,900 - As previously mentioned, picking on Mike Pelfrey is typically a profitable venture, and tonight should be no different. Altuve is such a valuable commodity for DFS due to his ability to steal bases just about every time that he lands on base. I don't really see a scenario in which Altuve does get on base at some point this evening.

Others to consider: Anthony Rendon, Chase Utley

Third Base

Manny Machado, Baltimore Orioles, $3,600 - The fact the Drew Hutchison 13-2 with a 4.87 ERA is rather humorous. Long story short, he's not a very good pitcher and one that I think is safe to pick on a little bit tonight when the Blue Jays host the Orioles. Machado is having a career year out of the leadoff spot for the Orioles. The positive park shift and nice price on Machado makes him a solid 3B option.

Todd Frazier, Cincinnati Reds, $2,300 - Frazier is a player that we were willing to pay up to $4,000 for earlier in the season; he is now sitting just $100 above the minimum at $2,300. As previously mentioned, this game has a nice total of nine runs, so Frazier represents an excellent punt option at the 3B position.

Shortstop

Troy Tulowitzki, Toronto Blue Jays, $3,700 - Tulowitzki has a price on FanDuel that is tough to ignore at $3,700. The Blue Jays offense, as a whole, continues to impress, and a home matchup against Ubaldo Jimenez will likely keep the momentum moving in the right direction. The total in this game is sitting at 9.5 runs, with Toronto coming in as sizable favorites at -170.

Others to consider: Jose Reyes, Jimmy Rollins

Outfield

Mike Trout, Los Angeles Angels, $4,300 - Trout continues to be underpriced on FanDuel at just $4,300. That $4,300 price tag on FanDuel represents the 10th-highest price at the outfield position, which is much too cheap for his skill set. Additionally, Trout’s matchup tonight is excellent against Martin Perez and the poor Rangers bullpen.

Adam Jones, Baltimore Orioles, $3,000 - Jones is another underpriced outfield option tonight. He has a price tag of just $3,000, which is also much too low for his skill set. Jones and the Orioles have a very favorable road matchup with Drew Hutchison, and the outfielder possess a lethal combination of speed and power.
