FanDuel NBA Bargains: Friday

by Spencer Limbach
Updated On: October 4, 2018, 4:04 pm ET

When looking at bargains on FanDuel, typically we’ll focus on players who are priced at $6,000 or lower. I’ll be ranking these picks by priority to your lineups for tonight’s nine-game slate starting at 7:00 ET.

Just a quick note that these player picks were organized early in the day. For the NBA, there is usually a plethora of news trickling out through the afternoon, which could open up some more value plays. Be sure to keep posted with the NBA Headlines & Injuries section, as the wonderful contributors over there will break down the DFS consequences of every piece of news.

Now onto the bargain plays.

1 – Shabazz Napier – PG – Portland (FanDuel Price: $3,700)

Damian Lillard has been ruled out tonight, meaning Shabazz Napier will likely be promoted to the starting lineup. He’ll share ball-handling responsibilities with CJ McCollum (also a fine DFS play), but the prospect of 30+ minutes for the near-minimum salary is one to take advantage of on FanDuel. Napier is one of the foundational blocks of my lineups tonight, freeing up enough cap space to reach for top stars like Harden and Durant.

2 – Tyler Johnson – PG – Miami (FanDuel Price: $6,000)

The last time we saw Tyler Johnson, he was only $4500 on FanDuel. That escalated quickly. Johnson will continue to see heavy minutes in Miami’s backcourt, as Goran Dragic has been ruled out for a third straight game. Johnson made the most of his previous two starts, racking up a total of 67 fantasy points in 75 total minutes. There’s a good chance he’ll continue that pace against a Dallas team that ranks 22nd in defensive efficiency vs opposing point guards.

3 – PJ Tucker – SF – Houston (FanDuel Price: $4,600)

Houston’s rotation is pretty thin at the moment, as Chris Paul, Luc Mbah a Moute, and Clint Capela are all expected to miss tonight’s game. Tucker was already seeing substantial minutes (averaging 35 over past three), and that should be the trend again tonight. Tucker isn’t known as much of an offensive player, but he should see enough rebounds, putbacks, and peripheral stats to hit value in the extended playing time. It helps that the Clippers rank 24th in defensive efficiency vs opposing small forwards.

4 – Jordan Mickey – PF – Miami (FanDuel Price: $4,200)

As mentioned earlier, Miami will remain shorthanded. Goran Dragic, James Johnson, and Hassan Whiteside have already been ruled out. That means Jordan Mickey will continue to see extra work in the frontcourt. Over the past four games, Mickey is averaging 22 minutes and 24 fantasy points per contest. I’m expecting him to be within that range yet again, as Dallas ranks 28th in rebound rate this season.

5 – Eric Gordon – SG – Houston (FanDuel Price: $5,400)

Eric Gordon should see full starter minutes and extra shot attempts with Chris Paul out tonight. If you recall, Gordon was a solid DFS streamer when CP3 was sidelined to begin the season. The salary has dropped significantly since then, creating an excellent buy-low situation for this evening.

Circling back to the small forward position, Trevor Ariza ($6100) and Josh Richardson ($6000) profile as sufficient mid-range values. Both of these players will benefit from respective injury situations. Ariza has routinely logged over 40 minutes per contest, while Richardson has stepped up with 40 FPPG over the past five with a heightened offensive role for Miami.

The power forward position is somewhat hairy on FanDuel. Options like Anthony Davis, Kyle Kuzma, and Kelly Olynyk all look good on the surface but hold cumbersome price points. That leaves options like Ryan Anderson ($4200) and Al-Farouq Aminu ($5700) as realistic bargains. Both will look to soak up more usage with their respective point guards (Paul & Lillard) ruled out. Anderson’s game log is pretty disheartening, but the salary is cheap relative to the upside in minutes and shot attempts this evening.
