When looking at “bargains” on FanDuel, typically we’ll focus on players who are priced at $6,000 or lower.
This is the last night of the NBA regular season, and many teams are simply resting their starters. This creates a ton of value, and I’ll do my best to pinpoint the Top 10 Bargains in that regard.
Just a quick note that these player picks were organized early in the day. For the NBA, there is usually a plethora of news trickling out through the afternoon, which could open up some more value plays. Be sure to keep posted with the NBA Headlines & Injuries section, as the wonderful contributors over there will break down the DFS consequences of every piece of news.
Now onto the bargain plays.
1 - Austin Rivers – PG – LA Clippers (FanDuel Price: $3,900)
The Clippers are resting virtually all of their starters tonight, including Chris Paul. This means Austin Rivers will run the show, see 36+ minutes, and enjoy a high usage rate against a Phoenix team that ranks dead last against opposing point guards. All of this for just $3900; where do I sign?
2 - Cole Aldrich – C – LA Clippers (FanDuel Price: $5,000)
Aldrich and teammate Austin Rivers are two value building blocks in my opinion. They will both have a ton of playing time and usage against an all-around bad Phoenix defense tonight. Aldrich has been a solid FP/minute producer all season, and now he’ll see enough minutes to turn that into a nice fantasy performance. The last time Aldrich started, he put up 56 FP in a tough matchup at Utah. Tonight’s draw at Phoenix is nearly as difficult.
3 - Nikola Mirotic – SF – Chicago (FanDuel Price: $5,200)
Mirotic has been up-and-down while filling in for Chicago’s injury-plagued frontcourt. Despite some inconsistencies, Mirotic looks very solid for fantasy purposes tonight. Pau Gasol, Taj Gibson, Derrick Rose, and Mike Dunleavy have all been ruled out, plus Jimmy Butler is on a minutes-limit. That should secure Mirotic’s playing time and usage rate in an excellent matchup vs Philly. Lock him in!
4 - Marcus Thornton – SG – Washington (FanDuel Price: $4,000)
John Wall and Bradley Beal will not play tonight, opening up more minutes for Thornton. Both missed last game, and Thornton responded with 34 fantasy points in 32 minutes. One game prior, Beal only played 8 minutes, opening up room for Thornton to produce 28 FP in 31 minutes. He should be around that range, posting solid value again tonight.
5 - Cory Joseph – PG – Toronto (FanDuel Price: $4,500)
I like Austin Rivers more on a “per dollar” basis, but you could theoretically combine Rivers and Joseph for a cheap point guard duo, spending up everywhere else. DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry will not play tonight, freeing up “Co-Jo” for plenty of minutes in a great matchup at Brooklyn.
6 - Zach LaVine – SG – Minnesota (FanDuel Price: $5,500)
LaVine is a great mid-range pick in this spot, taking on one of the worst defensive backcourts in the league. LaVine has hit 30+ fantasy points in three of the past four games, and I would be very surprised if he didn’t surpass that total once again.
7 - Bobby Portis – PF – Chicago (FanDuel Price: $4,000)
Portis essentially mirrors the write-up of teammate Nikola Mirotic, listed above. He has been somewhat spotty while filling in for Chicago’s revolving door of frontcourt players, but the Bulls will be forced to give him minutes with Gasol, Gibson, and Dunleavy out. That, coupled with a great matchup against Philly is good enough to consider Portis viable in both cash games and tournaments.
8 - Jeremy Lin – SG – Charlotte (FanDuel Price: $5,000)
There are plenty of quality, cheap shooting guards tonight, and I’m labeling Lin as more of a “boom or bust” tournament pick within that. He has been good when given extended minutes, but the playing time has been far from guaranteed. Nic Batum is out again, which helps his case. While Lin is coming off a massive 52 FP performance last game, he posted just 6 FP one game prior. That illustrates his risk/reward proposition in a nutshell.
9 - Evan Fournier – SF – Orlando (FanDuel Price: $5,800)
I would rather have Nikola Mirotic as a cheap small forward, but you could pair him with Fournier if your lineup requires more value. Victor Oladipo has been ruled out once again, meaning Fournier should see upwards of 40 minutes against a Charlotte team that ranks in the bottom five against opposing small forwards. Needless to say, Fournier has a nice floor/ceiling combination.
10 - James Anderson – SG – Sacramento (FanDuel Price: $3,600)
Essentailly 90% of Sacramento’s backcourt has been ruled out, including players like Rajon Rondo, Darren Collison, Marco Belinelli, and Rudy Gay. This opens up playing time and usage for James Anderson to post a respectable stat line. The matchup at Houston isn’t too bad either. I’m projecting at least 25-30 FP in this situation for Anderson.
