We have quite the slate on tap for Monday night. There are nine games on the schedule and there are injuries all over the place, which really opens up a number of different value plays on FanDuel. It looks like it could be a good night to take the stars and scrubs approach.
Isaiah Thomas vs. New Orleans Pelicans
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 26.7 | Last Five Games: 25.6
Min/Game -- Season: 31.2 | Last Five Games: 33.1
FP/Game -- Season: 34.2 | Last Five Games: 37.6
Marcus Smart is going to be out for the next couple of weeks and it sounds like the Celtics could also be without Avery Bradley tonight. Isaiah Thomas is a strong play either way, but he would see a boost if Bradley is unable to suit up. Thomas draws a terrific matchup against the Pelicans in a game that features the highest total on the board tonight (212 points).
Jeremy Lin vs. Detroit Pistons
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 19.1 | Last Five Games: 14.6
Min/Game -- Season: 22.7 | Last Five Games: 19.5
FP/Game -- Season: 19.2 | Last Five Games: 15.3
Kemba Walker is not expected to play tonight against the Pistons, which means Jeremy Lin will likely draw the start at point guard. While the matchup against the Pistons is less than ideal, Lin’s boost in minutes and usage are more than enough reason to make up for the matchup. At only $4,500, Lin is one of the best value plays in tonight’s slate.
Jamal Crawford vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 21.0 | Last Five Games: 21.0
Min/Game -- Season: 26.2 | Last Five Games: 26.7
FP/Game -- Season: 18.6 | Last Five Games: 18.8
The Clippers don’t sound optimistic about Chris Paul’s availability for tonight’s game and J.J. Redick is also very questionable. Crawford should see a nice boost in minutes again tonight. He is coming off of one of his best games of the season, as he had 32 points and five assists against the Magic on Saturday night.
O.J. Mayo vs. Portland Trail Blazers
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 14.7 | Last Five Games: 14.9
Min/Game -- Season: 27.9 | Last Five Games: 33.6
FP/Game -- Season: 18.2 | Last Five Games: 22.3
The Bucks’ backcourt is plagued with injuries right now. Greivis Vasquez has already been ruled out of tonight’s game and it sounds like Jerryd Bayless and Tyler Ennis could join him on the bench. If that were the case, O.J. Mayo would draw another start at point guard. He played well in his start the other night, scoring 29 fantasy points in 35 minutes of action.
Andrew Wiggins vs. Los Angeles Clippers
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 24.0 | Last Five Games: 20.9
Min/Game -- Season: 35.5 | Last Five Games: 37.3
FP/Game -- Season: 29.6 | Last Five Games: 28.2
Small forward is typically one of the toughest positions to fill and tonight is no exception. Kawhi Leonard will be a popular play, but the Spurs should easily beat the Sixers on the road. Rather than targeting a player in a potential blowout, I’m going to take the cheaper route with Andrew Wiggins. He draws a favorable matchup at home against the Clippers, who have not defended wing positions well this season.
Jae Crowder vs. New Orleans Pelicans
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 14.4 | Last Five Games: 14.3
Min/Game -- Season: 30.3 | Last Five Games: 32.0
FP/Game -- Season: 24.0 | Last Five Games: 26.3
As mentioned above, the Celtics/Pelicans game has the highest total on the NBA odds board tonight. This game should be filled with fantasy goodness and we should try to get as much exposure to it as we can. Jae Crowder is in play either way, but he would see a nice boost in minutes if Avery Bradley is unable to suit up. Crowder has played well over his last five games, averaging 26.3 fantasy points per contest.
Anthony Davis vs. Boston Celtics
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 24.2 | Last Five Games: 23.2
Min/Game -- Season: 35.7 | Last Five Games: 38.9
FP/Game -- Season: 45.6 | Last Five Games: 49.1
Anthony Davis had another injury scare on Saturday night, rolling his ankle against the Cavaliers. Luckily, he was able to return and he finished the game strong. He has now scored at least 52 fantasy points in each of his last four games. With all of the value on the board, it is easy to fit Davis in your lineup tonight. He draws a favorable matchup against the Celtics at home.
Blake Griffin vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 27.0 | Last Five Games: 28.0
Min/Game -- Season: 34.3 | Last Five Games: 34.6
FP/Game -- Season: 42.7 | Last Five Games: 41.5
With Chris Paul likely out tonight, the Clippers’ offense will run through Blake Griffin once again. Griffin is one of the few big men in the NBA that is an elite passer that can also create his own shot. His price is more than affordable at $9,300 and he draws a nice matchup against the likes of Kevin Garnett and Nemanja Bjelica.
Andre Drummond vs. Charlotte Hornets
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 21.3 | Last Five Games: 26.2
Min/Game -- Season: 34.9 | Last Five Games: 33.2
FP/Game -- Season: 44.5 | Last Five Games: 46.5
If you are looking to save at center, Alex Len is in a good spot with Tyson Chandler out. However, if you have the ability to pay up for Andre Drummond, I highly recommend it. He has been playing well recently, averaging 46.5 fantasy points in his last five games. He should be able to feast on a Hornets’ frontcourt that is plagued with injuries right now.
