It’s hard to believe that January is already over, but here we are. We kick off February with a nine-game slate on FanDuel tonight. There are a number of injuries that we need to monitor tonight, most notably DeMarcus Cousins and Tyreke Evans. As always, make sure to check the Player News page here on Rotoworld throughout the day to keep up on the latest injury updates.
Russell Westbrook vs. Washington Wizards
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 29.1 | Last Five Games: 27.4
Min/Game -- Season: 34.2 | Last Five Games: 38.5
FP/Game -- Season: 48.8 | Last Five Games: 50.1
The Thunder have an incredibly high team total yet again. They are projected to score 115.8 points, which is easily the highest on the NBA odds board. I generally don’t like to roster Westbrook and Kevin Durant in the same lineup, but that’s certainly in play tonight against the Wizards. Westbrook is the premier play at point guard and will likely be the highest owned player at the position.
Norris Cole vs. Memphis Grizzlies
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 17.9 | Last Five Games: 18.9
Min/Game -- Season: 25.3 | Last Five Games: 32.1
FP/Game -- Season: 17.2 | Last Five Games: 25.5
Tyreke Evans is currently questionable for tonight’s game against the Grizzlies. Even if he is able to suit up, the Pelicans have said that they want to keep him at around 24 minutes. Cole would see a boost if Evans were out, but he should see at least 30 minutes regardless. He comes into this game in great form, averaging 25.5 fantasy points over his last five games.
DeMar DeRozan vs. Denver Nuggets
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 25.4 | Last Five Games: 27.4
Min/Game -- Season: 36.4 | Last Five Games: 34.5
FP/Game -- Season: 35.0 | Last Five Games: 34.8
DeRozan has played well over his last five games, averaging 34.8 fantasy points in 34.5 minutes per contest. He draws one of the best matchups on the board tonight, as the Raptors take on the Nuggets in Denver. On the season, Denver has allowed the second-most fantasy points to shooting guards.
Khris Middleton vs. Sacramento Kings
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 19.5 | Last Five Games: 22.5
Min/Game -- Season: 35.9 | Last Five Games: 36.6
FP/Game -- Season: 28.9 | Last Five Games: 31.9
Middleton has been on an absolute tear over the last month of play. His minutes, usage rate, and production have all been up during that stretch. When it comes to matchups, there are few more favorable than the Kings. Not only do they play at a ridiculously fast pace, but they are ranked 28th against shooting guards this season.
Kevin Durant vs. Washington Wizards
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 25.1 | Last Five Games: 26.9
Min/Game -- Season: 36.0 | Last Five Games: 39.9
FP/Game -- Season: 45.0 | Last Five Games: 52.2
As mentioned above, I don’t mind pairing Russell Westbrook with Durant tonight. They have both averaged over 50 fantasy points per game in their last five outings and they draw a terrific matchup against the Wizards at home. Durant has a slightly easier matchup of the two, as the Wizards have been one of the worst teams in the NBA at defending wing players.
Giannis Antetokounmpo vs. Sacramento Kings
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 17.4 | Last Five Games: 17.2
Min/Game -- Season: 34.5 | Last Five Games: 36.4
FP/Game -- Season: 30.1 | Last Five Games: 31.4
Antetokounmpo may not be as good of a scorer as his teammate, Khris Middleton, but he is just as productive from a fantasy standpoint. He should see minutes in the mid to high-30s tonight against the Kings in a game that should fit his style of play well. He is at his best when he can create turnovers on defense and get out in the open floor.
Myles Turner vs. Cleveland Cavaliers
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 17.9 | Last Five Games: 21.9
Min/Game -- Season: 18.1 | Last Five Games: 28.8
FP/Game -- Season: 17.5 | Last Five Games: 31.8
Ian Mahinmi has already been ruled out of tonight’s game, which should solidify the minutes for both Turner and Jordan Hill (who we will get to). Turner has been one of the most popular plays in DFS over the last couple of weeks and he has yet to disappoint. He should see 30+ minutes tonight, making him close to a must play, even in a difficult matchup against the Cavaliers.
Willie Cauley-Stein vs. Milwaukee Bucks
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 9.4 | Last Five Games: 9.2
Min/Game -- Season: 19.8 | Last Five Games: 26.6
FP/Game -- Season: 16.2 | Last Five Games: 20.4
WCS has played less than 20 minutes in each of his last two games. However, he had played at least 30 minutes in his three games before that. With DeMarcus Cousins’ status up in the air tonight, WCS could be one of the top value plays on the board. Even if we don’t know Cousins’ status before lineups lock, WCS is a strong play that would have that built in equity if Cousins ended up being out.
Jordan Hill vs. Cleveland Cavaliers
TO-Adjusted Usage -- Season: 16.4 | Last Five Games: 15.3
Min/Game -- Season: 21.8 | Last Five Games: 24.2
FP/Game -- Season: 20.4 | Last Five Games: 22.3
Hill is coming off of one of his best games as a member of the Pacers. He drew the start against the Nuggets and finished the game with 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and six blocks. While I don’t expect a repeat performance tonight, it’s hard to pass up the value that he offers at center. Saving at power forward and center allows us to spend up on players like Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant.
Note: This is not meant to be a full lineup. The picks are my favorite targets at each position.
